Breastfeeding excruciating pain - tongue tie

I wonder if anyone can help or give me some hope.

I am breastfeeding my second baby. He is 5 weeks old and every feed is horrible. So painful. 😢
He had a tongue tie which was cut on Saturday morning. They said his tongue wasn't going over his gums when feeding and that should change when it was snipped but it hasn't. When I put my finger in his mouth he bits down on it with his very hard gums and I think that is what is causing the pain.
I have had the latch checked and apparently looks ok but I don't know how much longer I can do this for.

Has anyone else had the same with the gums and can offer any advice?

Also people who have had the tongue tie fixed - how long did it take for the feeding to improve after having it done?
Thanks

Well done you getting to 5 weeks with a tie, it sounds really painful and you’ve persevered all the same.

Did they show you exercises to do with him after they snipped the tongue tie? Even at 5 weeks he will have learnt coping mechanisms with his mouth to get around the tie and so normally you will need to do some work to get him to use his tongue and lips normally again.

Well done on getting to 5 weeks. Have you seen a lactation consultant, or just a midwife/health visitor checking his latch? Take it back to basics with positioning and latch. With baby 2 I had got used to feeding an older baby/toddler and forgot how to latch a newborn.

Pain with baby 1 didn't improve after the tongue tie division. Their palate was so high from the tongue being in the wrong place we needed nipple shields to help latch for months to make the pain bearable.

Baby 2 it was probably a week before they learnt how to latch comfortably after it. We did lots of taking off and trying again until it was comfortable.

Also just make sure you don't have anything else going on. Vasospasm, or if you have nipple damage it's possible you have an infection?

I had to stop breastfeeding my second due to the pain. This time with my 3rd i used silver cups on my nipples & literally no pain whatsoever!!! they are a miracle and i'd recommend to anyone (instructions only say to put on at night but i kept them on 24/7 so that probably helped!)
