Hi all,
My LO is 7 weeks old and formula fed.
Since birth he has had

  • congestion
  • wheezing
  • coughing
  • sneezing
  • silent reflux
  • colic like symptoms
  • excessive and loud gas, both ends
  • arching back
  • gurgling tummy
  • unsettled after feeds
  • unsettled during sleep especially during the day
  • explosive nappies

Just the last week his poo has become more mucous like and smells really sour and vinegar like.

Do these photos look like he could have an allergy?

I have an appointment next week with the gp to discuss this

Thanks

💯 I have had 3 boys in a row with CMPA and this is textbook.

My DS had this and I cut out all daiiry from my diet he was exclusively BF. I waited 10 weeks and 0 difference. I only had a calcium supplement no Dairy and he still had nappies like this. It went away when he was around 8months. Dr and HV said it was normal..

Yes, could well be. All those symptoms are very familiar as well as the mucousy nappies. I would also be careful with soya too.
Based on my experience the GP is that and not necessary an expert in allergies in babies so it might be worth going with that in mind.
The only way you would know is to eliminate and see if the symptoms improve. There is no testing for non-ige reactions.

Interested to know if you ever found a resolution to this as I am currently going through something similar.

babyno2dust · 02/07/2024 18:06

Hi @Cookies1234 at our Dr's appointment the Dr thought jt was a cows milk allergy, and he prescribed Aptamil Pepti 1, which is a more broken down formula.
Baby has been fine on this formula! About a week after he started it all the issues we were having went away, it's like we had a different baby! He is thriving on this formula and doing really well.

Thanks this is very interesting to know as we are torn between trying Aptamil pepti 1 or trying their lactose free but tempted to try Aptamil Pepti 1 if you’ve seen an improvement. Did you have to have this prescribed by a doctor or could you purchase it in a supermarket?

babyno2dust · 02/07/2024 21:48

We tried the Aptamil lactose free whilst waiting to see the Dr and it didn't make any difference.
Apparently lactose free doesn't mean dairy free, so if baby has a dairy allergy lactose free formula won't help them as it still contains dairy (which I never knew!)
We got the Aptamil Pepti prescribed by the Dr, and have to order it on repeat prescription.

Hi @babyno2dust, glad aptamil pepti has helped your little one - my 9 week old has very similar symptoms to yours and we are on day 5 of the same milk but so far no improvement, he actually seems a bit more unsettled. Did yours get worse before it got better, was it a drastic improvement once you hit 7 days?

Imisscoffee2021 · 22/07/2024 14:45

Yes textbook cmpa, my son never had the rash but his nappies were mucus and he was such a miserable boy with the gripes and silent reflux. Was a new boy on allergy formula.
