Tesco Sterilising Tablets

Hi all, I used Tesco brand Sterilising tablets today to sterilise some teething toys.

The instructions say that the solution needs to be rinsed off with boiled water. I just tipped the solution out and filled with boiled water. Is that ok to get the solution off?

is there a reason that it needs to be rinsed and that Milton doesn’t?

I have no idea but in case it’s helpful you don’t need to sterilise teething toys or weaning equipment. Sterilising is in case you miss any bits when washing up the bottles because old leftover milk residue can grow some seriously nasty bacteria. You don’t need to sterilise anything that’s not used for formula.

Ah right, I thought it was due to
our water not being clean enough for babies.
Baby is only 4 months old, so we’re still sterilising everything that we let him put in his mouth (apart from his hands obviously).

I’m freaking out a bit because I let him have the toy and now I’m worried that I’ve poisoned him by not rinsing thoroughly enough. He seems fine but I’m a very anxious person!

looking at the back of the packet it seems like the tesco tabs are stronger than Milton.

I think it’s a common misconception! It’s the bacteria that can grow in old milk and bottles especially the teats can have crevices you could miss when washing up, hence why you sterilise as long as you’re using formula even if it’s for a crawling, walking, robust 11MO. Their hands aren’t sterile, your boob isn’t sterile, you can’t have nor should you want a sterile environment for baby so honestly it’s fine to just wash the teething stuff normally! I really doubt you’ve poisoned him by following the instructions re rinsing but in future it’d probably be easier if you just gave it a good wash and avoided all those chemicals.
