Almost 10 month old completely refusing milk since sickness bug

Our almost 10 month old had (what we believe to be) norovirus earlier this week (he kindly
gave it to us too!). Since then he’s almost entirely refused his milk. The only time we’ve managed to give him any has been in the middle of the night. Last night he had 5oz about 4am. That’s all he’s had between now (5pm) and 5am Friday morning (36 hours ago). He’s willing to eat certain foods (but completely avoiding a lot of what he usually likes) and he’s taking sips of water. We got him reviewed by a GP on Thursday and she said he isn’t dehydrated and mentioned that babies can get a temporary lactose intolerance after a gastro bug. What’s difficult is that he’s clearly hungry due to the lack of milk, but he won’t even entertain it, instead he bats the bottle away. We’ve also tried putting it in a straw cup (he spits it out) and in weetabix (which he usually loves but won’t eat any at the moment).

We don’t know what to do at this point. He’s barely had any milk for since Sunday (6 days ago). At what point is this an issue? He’s definitely lost weight. Does anyone have any suggestions? It almost seems like he’s developed an aversion to it.

our poor baby 😢

Is it milk suitable for lactose intolerance @Potatobakes?

My DS was in hospital on IV antibiotics for 2 weeks, aged 6 months, he refused all milk, water and most foods. He would, however, eat yoghurt and went through 12 pots a day.
He never really went back to milk and would only drink a small amount if it was cold from the fridge.
The doctors said the antibiotics can affect taste, and as long as he was eating yoghurt they weren't worried.
So long winded way to say, have you tried yoghurt?

Will he eat other dairy instead?
I'd give the food he wants to eat, water to drink and any dairy products he will accept. And give a supplement of vitamins A, C and D

Tried that this afternoon @CadyEastman but he wouldn’t have that either. He tried it and spat it out

Bless him, sounds difficult for you all! Tried yoghurt a few days ago and he was sick but he refused it this morning and yesterday. Will try again though! Thanks

He’s refused yoghurt yesterday and today but will try him again! Will get some vitamins as he’s definitely not getting what he needs at the moment

They don't actually need that much milk at 10 months, think it's 13.5 floz and if he's been that poorly I would try not to worry too much about it.

I would give him the foods he likes and offer some paracetamol along with a daily vitamin as dementedpixie recommended.

Hope he's feeling better soon.

Would he eat food with cheese sauce? Custard? Other cereals with milk?
