Breastfeeding positions

I posted a thread that my baba brings up milk some feeds and sometimes sicky. Has the hiccups sometimes and can be a bugger to bring up her wind.

Whats the best feeding position or is just sitting her up for 30 mins the best thing to do?

Tia

Oh I sympathise! Both my two were like this. I tried lots of positions and was told that keeping them upright might help, but that's not really easy with most breastfeeding positions.

I found keeping them relatively still for as long as possible after a feed really helped.
That and time! They grow out of it after a few months..

You may get more responses if you move this to the Infant Feeding section.

My son was never like this. It's awful. Especially when she can't bring the wind up. I'll try that thank you. Hope she grows out of it soon. X

Have you tried gently circling her while she's sat up?

It's a bit gentler than back patting /rubbing (so less likely to bring their milk back up) but still effective.

How old is she? How are her nappies? It could be a food intolerance through your milk, though not necessarily!

I always do that first. Definitely a good way to get wind up but sometimes doesn't work

Edited

She's 6 weeks and has plenty of wet and dirty nappies. Hmm maybe. What other signs would there be?

The most common allergy through breast milk is dairy but there other allergies. Unfortunately the only way to test it is to completely cut out dairy from your diet for 6 weeks and see if things improve. It’s worth cutting out soy as well as dairy allergy is usually also soy allergy. You could try that if her symptoms are as listed in this site: https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/childrens-health/what-should-i-do-if-i-think-my-baby-is-allergic-or-intolerant-to-cows-milk/

But it could just be her getting used to her digestive tract and will improve anyhow.

What should I do if I think my baby is allergic or intolerant to cows' milk?

If you think your baby is having a reaction to cows' milk, talk to your health visitor or GP. If your baby is diagnosed with a milk allergy, your GP can prescribe alternatives to cows' milk-based infant formula.

Good luck. My baby had terrible skin, sneezed loads, sick all the time, green frothy poo (sorry!), hiccups. I cut out dairy and soy and he was much better within a couple of weeks. x

Thank you. Aww that's good. She hasn't got terrible skin or green frothy poos. X
