11.5mths post-bfing and still leaking milk???

its been 11and a half months since i stopped feeding my dd and i still have a bit of milk in my breasts, I never got any drying up when i stopped, and occasionally if i'm in a warm relaxing bath or something i can still leak now. Is this at all normal?....

I do want to add i breastfed ds for 12mths, then was pregnant for another 5mths after stopping feeding him before i gave birth to dd and fed her for 12mths, so in effect my breast were FULL of milk for 29mths....it has got much less, but still enough that they can sometimes be sore, and as i said sometimes leak...

My MIL told me recently that it could take a long time for me to dry up as I have been feeding DD for so long (18m) apparently she still had Milk over a year after stopping, she fed for 19m. I am still BFing atm.

Nothing scientific to help I am afraid but it might make you feel a bit more "normal" about it.

I will watch with interest though...

I think it is only 4 or 5 months since I stopped feeding DS - we bf until he was 20 or 21 months. I still leak some milk some nights, and it's there if I give my nips a quick sqeeze (like you do). I was thinking I was just wierd, so this is quite reassuring already

well my other worry is that I plan to start ttc to be a surrogate mother for my friend in a few months time. I'm worried then that my breasts will fill up to be full again, not have feeding and either the drying up stage will be longer and more painful, or my breasts will still be left with milk in over 2 years after i last breastfed my daughter!!!

Wow - that is great! However you night find the drying up after PG sorts it out?

glaskham · 22/03/2008 10:45

thats what i'm hoping for really....but things never go as i want them to!! haha!! i think i'm just too much of a cynic!!

I think by this stage i would have started drinking some Sage!!

Glaskham.. thats is truly amazing what your doing for your friend.

glaskham · 22/03/2008 20:08

what do i do with this sage then?....never heard of it at all...have been a little embarresed to contact any midwives or any helth visitors for advise on my leaky breasts...

at least on here i can kinda stay anonymous (well i dont think I know any RL MNers)

And thanks for the nice comment on what i'm doing...its the sort of thing that either inspires people and they admire what i plan to do, or some are dead against it without even knowing anything about it!! I'm proud of what i'm doing and cant wait to get started, just my leaky boobs are starting to become a worry closer to the ttc date!!

Just drop it on your tongue a few times per day. I really does work.. my DP actually used it during the summer last year to stop him sweating as much!!

glaskham · 22/03/2008 20:38

ooh....think i might have to buy some....get DH to treat me. its in his benefit!!! i wont be fearing i'll soak him with milk if he touches them!!haha!!

I still leak after about ten months so normal I reckon

glaskham · 22/03/2008 20:50

ooh....10 mths is a very long time too....i still feel the need to wear breast pads sometimes, if i've leaked in bed the night before or something....its a pain in the backside....i just want it to dry up and dissapear!!! i loved breastfeeding, but no-one ever told me i'd be leaking more 11mths after stopping than i did when actually feeding!!! [grrrr face]

Catch a cold and take all the flu remedies - everyone tells me it will dry up my Milk.

Or hayfever tablets? It's nearly Summer

More seriously though - perhaps you should speak to the GP and see what they recommend?
