Cluster feeding - how often are they meant to do it?

I have a 9 day old who has had a period of cluster feeding everyday. The past 2 days have been relentless, yesterday she cluster fed from 8am till 23:30 😳 my boobs are huge in the mornings and plenty of wet/dirty nappies and a good weight so I think she’s getting enough milk.

I was under the impression that cluster feeding was just meant to happen for a couple of days then settle for a bit? Hoping for some rest soon!!

It is normally just a few days, so hopefully you're at least half way through it.

Pick a boxset, or some films you've been wanting to watch, get a water bottle and plenty of snacks, and settle in.

I would get a feeding assessment. Cluster feeding is very frequent in the early days, but not literally all day. I wonder if milk is being transferred effectively.

(All sounds great with the weight and nappies).

Oh I read that wrong! I read it as 8am - 2:30pm 🙄 which I thought was long but not ridiculously so.

I agree with PP that literally all day is very long and maybe she's not feeding as effectively as she could.

Thank you guys, I will talk to the infant feeding team tomorrow! Actually glad to hear it’s not normal, don’t think I could go on like this for long xx

Infant feeding team is a good first port of call, but do check back in if you're unsure about what the assessment consisted of. Unfortunately it's a bit of a postcode lottery here and some of them are excellent while some are a bit pants. If you're on Facebook, Lucy Ruddle always posts really useful stuff. I also found it helpful to go to some in person support groups when my DC were little and breastfeeding. La leche league, baby café, nct (don't need to be a member), children's centres, all often run groups. And just Google for breastfeeding support group + town.

And Lucy Webber too!

It is relentless. In our experience things are just getting worse with feeding/crying/fussing etc. Ours is 4w3d now and seems to have regressed if that’s even possible. People are absolutely militant on here telling you things will pass and get better. In our experience I would say do not hope for or look forward to rest.

Thank you all! 🥰
