My 7 month old is struggle with bottle aversion we have tried several bottles/teats/cups and it’s getting worse
she takes 12/15oz a day(dream fed during naps) and is starting to loss weight , she was 20lb not sure what she is now

I’m struggling badly with mental health issues over this and I honestly don’t know how to go on

My son had that at around the same age,it was so stressful,I'm sorry you're going through the same.
I was recommended the book by Rowena Bennett about bottle aversion,it was very helpful. There also a Facebook page with others going through similar

@holidayisthebestday ive read her book and bough the online course thing but I’m very scared to take her solids away it’s the only think she’ll happily take(most of the time)

it is so so hard and for anyone who hasn’t been through it doesn’t understand how tough it is :(

I know,it was really scary,my son would not drink all afternoon have 1oz before bed and then go all night and refuse in the morning too. We didn't see a change with taking away solids,we just learnt not to distract/pressure into taking bottles.
We had to focus on foods with water/milk in,ice pops, watermelon, cereal with milk etc.
he's 3 now and still not a big drinker,but he's healthy.
Have you spoke to the doctor?

One of mine was like this. On the advice of the paediatrician we did 3 meals a day including lots of milk rich stuff e.g. breakfast was always porridge made with formula and she had natural yoghurt with fruit as a pudding, she drank water from a sippy cup and we gave her vitamin drops. She’s now a healthy and average sized 6YO.

@holidayisthebestday did you do any dream feds or did you just offer and let him have what he would take?
ive had her at the dr a few times but my gp said she’s not qualified to comment on diet and has referred me to a dietitian but no response yet other than that the dr isn’t concerned as she looks healthy

@InTheRainOnATrain my little one won’t take any food made up with her formula but she does have porridge made with cows milk and eats most of it

I wouldn't take food away but would incorporate lots of foods containing milk and other dairy products into her diet instead.

Talk to a medical professional but my understanding was that they can get their calories and nutrition from solids so long as they’re eating properly, taking vitamins and drinking water. Weaning is a process and there are some babies that will fully wean quicker and want nothing to do with milk once they’ve discovered food.

dementedpixie · 30/01/2024 13:57

And yes a supplement of vitamins A, C and D is recommended if taking less than 500mls of formula per day

holidayisthebestday · 30/01/2024 18:45

@ftm20232020 we did do the dreamfeeds to start with but he was still only taking a couple of ounces of it and as he was getting older,he wasn't so sleepy anymore and would just wake up and push it away when we tried to dream feed.

We spoke to a paediatrician who said to give as much fluids in foods and try different cups etc. Once I realised how much fluid you can get in them from cereal, porridge, yogurt, fruit and veg,ice pops it stopped me from panicking about the drinking.
I know it's such a worry but it is usually just a phase and in the meantime just give foods with water/milk,try different cups and give a vitamins supplement as another poster suggested
