7 month old biting when latching

Hiya, my 7 month old has 4 teeth and he has started to bite every time he initially latches. He isn't doing it on purpose, it's like he is trying to work out why it's different as he has only just got the top 2 teeth. It's really painful and makes me dread every latch. It is only when he latches and then I can feel his teeth but he isn't biting down when drinking. Was hoping for some tips to stop him from doing this. So far I say ouch and unlatch him and then try again but he does it every time like he isn't sure how to latch without biting now.
Thanks in advance

My DS bit me a couple of times when I was BF. However, he did it on purpose, because he looked me in the eye and paused before he did it. I shouted very loudly in pain while looking directly at him (hammed it up a bit, to shock him) and he didn’t do it again. If your DS isn’t doing it on purpose, I would take a gentler route, look him in the eye and say “no, no teeth please”. If he continues, pull your breast away and repeat as often as you need to, so that he learns that he’s not allowed to use teeth. If he continues to, shouting loudly might get the message across. I would never suggest being cruel, but our little people also need to know that us mums are human too and we’re doing the important job of feeding them.

Also well done and congrats for still BF at 7 months. The drop off rate is high for beyond 6 weeks, so you’re doing a fantastic job!

@2Hot2Handle thank you so much for replying. He's definitely not doing it on purpose, I think he is just learning how to latch with teeth now. I keep saying before I latch "be gentle no biting" if he does I'll tell him "no, no teeth please" and pull breast away thank you so much, works. If he does it on purpose ever I will definitely use what you did for that as that sounds like it worked well.

Aww thank you very much ☺️ it's gone really well for us xx

My one did it too but it was very short-lived, stopped doing it soon.

Mine did it a few times, best thing is to push their head gently but firmly into your boob and they let go!
