Posted this in Behaviour and Development then realised might have been better here!

Hi there, DD 6 months old and has been suffering with what I thought was trapped wind for the past four weeks, has been getting progressively worse to the point where she is up in pain several times a night now. Anyhow, been to see a cranial osteopath today, she came highly recommended and I was impressed with what she had to say. Apparently she has a form of Colic which appears in older babies (I think she referred to it as KISS but head was a shed so might be wrong) DD has never had colic or wind problems when she was younger. Anyhow, she said DD pelvis needs readjusting, apparently her bowel is like a coiled spring at the mmoment, she said it is too tight to adjust at the moment and wants me to put Eye-Q Omega 3 and 6 in two of her bottles a day for three days and then go back for some adjustment. Has anyone been advised to use this with their baby before and what does it do?

nope but organic milk has higher levels of omega 3 so you could try an organic formula?

LIZS · 19/03/2008 17:20

Didn't think it was recommended for under 2's

LIZS · 19/03/2008 17:25

ah there is a baby version here which you add to food and/or drink

I can't imagine they'd have that quick an effect but seems unlikely to be harmful . Kind of like cod liver oil so maybe it loosens the joints a little?

do ask when you go back what the exact reason is? I'm keen to understand? I know they are vital for optimal brain function. My kids eat a diet with oily fish plus an still bf ds2. But he's losing interest now. We were advised to give. Eye q to dd. She had speech delay aged 2-3 bingo reaction, quite incredible after eye q.
Was amazed by how much rubbish is in some other brands. Saccharin and allsorts!!!! Defeating point somewhat?

5 would be a little concerned about this. Have you checked her qualifications - I know a lot of people who have taken their dcs to cranial osteopaths and I have never heard of this before. Doesn't mean it's not perfectly fine - but I would be sceptical....

MidgetGem · 20/03/2008 08:30

Hi Piffle yes I am definatley going to ask when I go back to her, I am there on Saturday. Hi Seeker, I am pretty confident of her credentials, she is a qualified Dr who then went on to train in this field, she is "the" baby cranial osteopath to go to in our area, I know a lot of people who have been amazed with her results I just can't believe I didn't probe it more at the time

could it be related to weaning, maybe her digestive system is still trying to adjust to having to do some work for a change? Hope it gets better soon.

MidgetGem · 20/03/2008 10:05

Just managed to grab time to do some research on the internet, seems some drs and nutritionists recommend giving it to babies. It is found in abundance in breastmilk and formula companies add it to varying degrees to their formula, it is often given for irritable bowel problems, too much may cause a laxative effect so I am guessing that she has prescribed it to loosen babies bowels, this would make sense because constipation is one of her problems at the moment. This is just my interpratation of it will post back when I find out the full story on Saturday.

Hi Laska, crossed posts then, I think it definatley ties in with weaning, I can pinpoint it back to about 4 weeks ago which is about a week after I started to introduce first tastes. I came off all foods for several days but it made no difference to her and it has got progressively worse. The osteopath seemed to think it is quite common condition to get around this time, she seemed hopeful that with a few adjustments we should see a noticeable improvement, fingers crossed.
