Bottle refusal

Hi
my almost 7month old is now totally refusing his bottle, he has done this from 2 months old but now the past two weeks is total refusal. I have to feed him during naps but only managed 1 oz and 4oz the past two feeds. HV told me just to try get as much milk in as I can and try have a balanced diet for him as he does eat well (most of the time)

it’s really stressing me out I don’t know what to do anymore 🥲🥲🥲

Is he losing weight? Nappies etc ok? Is it worth trying some milk in a cup?

Formulamum · 20/01/2024 12:14

@Nearlythere80 hes not losing weight but he’s not gaining much either , nappies have always been on the drier side gp didn’t seem concerned as along as there is atleast 4 a day … I have tried a open cup, sippy cup, straw cup and countless different bottles 🥲

I try to sneak it into his porridge and he won’t eat it them he seems to hate milk 🥲

Have you got a gas hob?

Formulamum · 20/01/2024 12:27

@justasking111 no, why??

Okay then go to boots and get fast flow teats £5.

If that doesn't work then it's cheese for him.

Don't worry they all go through phases. My friend ended up doing milkshakes for her baby which he consumed with glee. He's now 22 , 6' tall a farmer and part time fire fighter.

Formulamum · 20/01/2024 12:52

@justasking111 he has the fast flow teats , he will not suck on his bottle unless he’s asleep now 🥲

Well you could try chocolate, strawberry powder, add that to milk in a Tommy tippee type cup. If he glugs that down then it's not milk aversion. Mumsnetters will crucify me for suggesting this 😂. You could also try honey.

Otherwise it's yoghurt and cheese I'm afraid. Give him a break from milk

But start toothbrushing any pegs that appear

OP, Do NOT do this. And definitely do not give honey to a baby under 1, Christ.

Have tried the strawberry nesquik and vanilla essence to no avail 😩 I will give the chocolate a go though 🙈
It’s so scary to see him not want milk when it’s meant ti be there main source of food 😅

Cross posted, you’ve given strawberry nesquik powder to a 6 month old baby?!

They're not going to die. You can also whizz, strawberries, raspberries in a blender.

Honestly I've worked in Uganda, you'd have a conniption and the vapours @PinkFizz1 if you saw babies there 🙄

PinkFizz1 · 20/01/2024 13:53

Giving a 6 month old blended fresh fruit is not the same as giving them strawberry nesquik.

HTH.

Formulamum · 20/01/2024 13:54

@PinkFizz1 I mean when you watch your baby refuse bottle after bottle you’ll try anything, plus it’s very common for baby’s on allergy milk as it tastes awful (my baby’s not on allergy milk)

Have you had him checked for an ear infection or enlarged tonsils/adenoids, it can make sucking and swallowing difficult and painful

Does he drink water or any other liquids?

Formulamum · 20/01/2024 14:00

@SeaToSki he was at the doctor last week mind you the doctor didn’t seem to care a whole lot and wasn’t very interested in doing a proper check 🙄
but yes he will take water from a straw/sippy cup

I would go back to the doctor and ask him to check ears and back of throat (also thrush thinking about it)

Push the water (its not ideal but hydration is primary) and also try water in the bottle to get him back to not thinking like bottles are the enemy!

Then when he is confidently drinking again, try sneaking a bit of milk back into the water and slowly (over several days) increase the concentration until its 50:50

Also add vitamin drops containing vit d and calcium to his food somewhere

You seem to have tried everything to get calcium into him via milk. Crack on with the cheese, yogurts and water. He will survive I promise.
