My 9MO baby is EBF and has suspected CMPA which manifests as severe eczema around his neck, chin and face. I’ve cut dairy out of my diet but I’m really struggling being dairy free and tbh although it has improved it’s not completely away and I suspect the GP will not suggest I start cutting more from my diet which tbh I’m loathed to do! I privately bought Nutramigen but he flat out refused it, is there any others that are more palatable that we could try?

Did you get anywhere with this? Staring down the barrel of potentially having to do similar!

They're all bad but you can add vanilla essence to help with the flavour.

We tried aptamil pepti and had slightly more luck in that he isn’t flat out refusing it and will take an oz sometimes even 2 but never more than this and he needs to be absolutely starving. Unfortunately I’ve just gone back to ebf and accepting my dairy free fate until his first birthday.

I never had any success, and to be fair having tasted the one the dietician recommended was the least bad - it still tasted foul! From memory as well as trying the vanilla essence trick above, I think I also tried a recommendation for adding some sort of Nesquick powder for flavouring milk.

Our dietician gave us permission to use Oat milk from age 1, which we did have much more success with. At the time, we were told to use Oatly Barista for the fat content, I'd imagine you'd now be told to use the Alpro Oat Growing up milk for the better fortification (wasn't available 5 years ago).

yes this is my plan, continue (begrudgingly) to breastfeed until 1 then switch to alpro oat growing up milk in a cup from 1, we already use it in his food and he seems to be ok with it so hopefully it will be a smooth transition!

Aptimel pepti was the best I found

Ok thanks for the update. Has going dairy free improved his skin?

My LO has had eczema since he was 4 months old and it’s really escalated since weaning. He’s been having formula from my husband (I breastfeed him otherwise), then we also tried normal dairy, really hard to know what’s causing anything because it’s all delayed reactions. Seeing a private allergist next week, and semi expecting to be told to trial dairy free as it’s one thing we haven’t done yet, due to him having formula.

MotherOfDragon20 · 08/02/2024 23:26

Yes it has actually improved his skin, although if I’m honest I’ve definitely slipped up a few times and his skin has flared up but not as bad as it was so I’m hopeful he is growing out of his cmpa.

We got told to add vanilla or flavouring syrup to hide the taste - it worked, but the smell used to give me the bork!
