Rapid Cool Hot Shot Method

Hi all,

I'm using the rapid cool bottles and want to start using the hot shot method but the times I have tried it the temperature of the final formula in the bottle feels too warm to me.

Do people tend to make ahead a little for it to cool? Or has anyone measured the temperature of the final formula?

For info I'm making a 6oz bottle, pour the 6oz into the bottle then pour approx 5oz into the rapid cool and mix formula with the remaining 1oz in the bottle.

I may be being over cautious as I'm not sure what the temperature of the formula should actually be, I just try it on my wrist before feeding baby.

Thanks!

I don't quite understand your post so sorry of this is obvious, but the hot shot method would be cooled boiled water in one flask and hot water in the other, you would put the hot water on to the formula and top up with cool water to make it a good temp. Doesn't matter what the end temperature is as long as it's drinkable. Just adjust the ratio of hot to cold if you think it's too warm.

Sorry I think I was sleep deprived when typing. Yes the water would be cooled in the rapid cool but a boiling hot shot added to the formula.

I've found that 1oz boiling to 5oz cooled still feels quite warm on my wrist but just 1/2oz boiling to dissolve the formula didn't do a very good job.

Just curious what other peoples experiences are with this method and whether the hot shot method still makes the formula too warm.

Probably over thinking it and being over anxious.

Yes I think you're overthinking it and you don't need any fancy equipment.

The easiest thing to do, if you're not comfortable making up bottles with previously boiled and cooled water is:

  1. Boil a full kettle of water the night before. Store it in a bottle of jug which you can keep in the fridge (once it's cooled)
  1. Add your powder and a little bit of freshly boiled water to the bottle
  1. Top up with the cooled boiled water from the fridge (or container if you're out and about)

You can work out what the correct ratio of hot and cold water to give you a temp you're happy with.

But honestly most people just use previously boiled now cool water.

I use this method and because I use colief I have to leave the formula for 30 minutes so do make ahead but without colief I still try to give myself at least 15/20 minutes before I know the feeds due, plus my LO is impatient!

@lynseyh85
Hi,
Did you ever figure this out?

I've just tried it and also found the bottle was still too hot to give
