Weaning advice at 5months

Hello,

As mentioned previously my 5month old has been diagnosed as 'failure to thrive' due to slow/poor weight gain.
He had dropped from between the 9th and 25th centile to just below the 2nd.
He is under a Paediatrian who really isn't great at getting back to us.
She suggested to wean him at 4 months and she feels he has silent reflux due to Laryngmalacia. But she said she doesn't want to medicate him as she feels weaning is the best solution to silent reflux.

Any advice on what we can give to wean to help with weight gain eventually. I know at the beginning he is likely to take very little and sometimes they can lose weight, but are there rules on adding a spoon of double cream or trying full fat yogurts or anything to purées. He doesn't seem to have any allergies.

Just looking for some weaning advice as so clueless and have tried calling the Paediatrician but keep getting her secretary saying she's busy due to the doctor's strikes!

He can sit up in his chair and hold his head up. He watches us eat food but doesn't quite grab it from our plates.

Thanks in advance!

Ask the paed to refer you to feeding specialist usually a speech and language therapist with special training on feeding to look at how he swallows etc . And suggest foods .

Since this goes against general advice ask to see the specialist first .
What about his other muscles is he hypotonic generally? Also refer to OT for seating advice

Just don't add honey until 12 months ,full fat yoghurts should be given anyway and cream is fine.

My baby was failure to thrive and adding cream was their suggestion. Croissants is a good option after six months.
