4 month old bf baby distressed during feeding?

Hi

My 4 month DD is bf exclusively and bf has never been a problem. Till 3 weeks ago I bf from one side per feed - I have slight oversupply so this helped - since then she has seemed to need both. However she now sometimes gets distressed during feeding. I suspect it may be when the breast is drained but it seems too fast to be possible! Can a baby drain one side in less than 5 mins and then do the same on the other?

She seems to be teething, I dont know if this is related...

Thanks for the help!

This may not help, as it's
been a while since I bf my 4. I found though that when they were teething they really did go from one breast to the other and never felt full. This left me frustrated and exhausted. I 'm afraid that you may just need to keep swapping sides and trying settling her in between. She's not being sick on the milk is she?

Have you checked for thrush? This could be causing discomfort for her. Look for little white spots in her mouth. It could be why after initially being really hungry and guzzling some milk, it gets uncomfortable (and she becomes restless), when she'd like to have a nice long snuggle and suck.

Or, like you wonder, it could be discomfort from feeding. I don't think at 4months, if she is exclusively bf, your supple should be changing all that much

Thanks for suggestions. I've just checked for thrush - no sign.

I suspect it might be that she has become a bit used to the megafast flow I have at the start of a feed (powerful letdown) and is grumpy when she has to work harder after that. She only does this fussing thing in the evening feeds, not in the morning when she hasnt eaten for ages and there is a more abundant supply. Is there anything I can do??
