Painful breastfeeding with good latch- 10 weeks

Hi all,

I’m looking for some solidarity and advice really!

My nips have always been a little sore when breastfeeding. Not 100% awful, no bleeding, no cracks, doesn’t take my breath away and I don’t need to put gel on- although unmistakably very sore. Like even when I put my towel round me they’re extremely sore.

Now I know breastfeeding is supposed to be totally painless, so baby’s tongue tie was snipped at 6 weeks (told to wait and see how it goes for a while because it may not pose a problem), I waited to see improvement, none. So I saw a private lactation consultant who said my latch was good and the pain would go away in a couple of weeks as it’ll just be residual pain from before the tongue tie snip. It was not.

I then saw my GP who said she actually had a similar experience. Tongue ties of 2 babies snipped, good latch, still painful and struggled on longer than she should have. 1 baby no pain.

Also I should mention that baby is gaining weight great and lots of dirty and wet nappies.

I’ve looked online and everywhere says it’s a poor latch.

I suppose my question is, could it just be luck of the draw and it will always be painful for me? This would actually be reassuring as it means I don’t feel like I’m constantly doing something wrong. It’s just no one else is out there saying this.

Is it just me? Are there other people out there? Will it get better?

My breastfeeding experience was similar to yours, with persistent soreness despite efforts to address latch and tongue tie issues. It was frustrating to feel like I was doing everything right, yet still experiencing discomfort. After seeking advice from multiple professionals and finding no resolution, I felt discouraged and unsure of what to do next. However, I came across the Thompson Method, and it was a game-changer for me.If you're facing similar challenges with breastfeeding, I highly recommend exploring the Thompson Method. It's not always easy to find the right support, but finding a method that aligns with your needs and values can make all the difference. Don't hesitate to reach out for help and explore alternative approaches that may offer the relief you're seeking.
