Baby uninterested in feed

My 9 week old has slept through the night since he was 6/7 weeks old. But he used to always wake up on the dot at 6:30 for his feed. The last two mornings I’ve had to wake him up at 7 to give him his feed. He should be having 5 ounces but he will only finish 4 (for context two weeks ago he was on 4 and was still hungry so we upped the feed). He’ll have the first 3 be winded and just won’t be interested in the remainder milk. Sometimes it takes half an hour to finish 1 ounce. Leaving the last ounce.
Has this happened to anyone else? What do I do??

I was just about to post the same thing! My baby is 13 weeks, sleeping 7:30pm to 7am without a feed. EBF. For the past week just won’t feed longer than 5 minutes in the morning when I assume she must be starving. Getting worried as I only feed her 4 times a day and this is one of the feeds. Following for advice!

If baby is happy then I don't think it's a problem. Maybe they aren't that hungry when they first wake up? Offer the next bottle a bit sooner just in case.

A 13 week old should be having more than 4 feeds in 24 hours though.

If your baby was hungry they would let you know, as long as baby is gaining weight and healthy, enjoy the extra sleep.

Is your baby gaining weight and having plenty of wet nappies? It is likely to be short lived. Sometimes they sleep more when they are growing or maybe your baby has a bit if a bug making them more sleepy. Try offering a bit more milk at a different time of day when they are more alert.

Thank you! He’s very happy once awake to take the bottle. I’ll wind him and he’s just not interested in the rest. I’ll give him ten minutes to have a break and try again and like I said it takes ages to finish 1 ounce leaving the last ounce. Then he’ll be cooing or fall asleep after being burped from that ounce but just won’t finish the last of his bottle

Also why did you have to wake him?

Curiousmammma · 09/12/2023 08:10

I had to wake him as he hadn’t had a feed since 8:30pm the previous day, I’d assume he would be verrryy hungry

That doesn't sound normal for a 13 w/o EBF baby. Why are you only feeding 4 times a day? Or are you expressing and giving bottles the rest of the time?

@WonderingWanda I feed her every four hours, and now she doesn’t wake at night so she’s dropped a 5th/6th feed. she now does 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm

the idea is big feeds spaced out rather than frequent snack feeds. I believe it’s what has led her to sleep through so early

@Curiousmammma my DD is the same, very awake and alert and smiling and looking around, just not interested in food!
