Hi all,
I have posted recently regarding my DD now 11 weeks old. We have been through the works of figuring out what is causing her discomfort after feeds and during feeds. CMPA, silent reflux, tongue ties, the whole works has been something we have been investigating since she was 2-3 weeks old.
I was advised to trial Omeprozole before considering a possible milk allergy after Gaviacon failed to do anything l, which we have been using for 5 days (1ml per day), although I’m not seeing any improvements so far, and the last 2-3 days she has refused the breast completely when awake. I can only manage to get her to feed for 5 minutes maximum at a time after she wakes up from a nap or through the night. She has to be half asleep or she will arch her back and scream.
Today has been worse, she has only had 6 x 4 minute feeds so far between 8am - 8pm. I do have a fast and powerful let down, but she seems to cope with this well. Big gulps, some clicking. It’s always when the 4-5 minute mark hits and she comes off, smiling and seeming content, until 5 minutes later when she is either posseting, passing foul wind, or looking distressed and in pain until I can eventually get her off to sleep again.
Is it possible she is getting what she needs in this short amount of time feeding and I’m just so used to having a cluster feeder that this is making me panic? I have tried spacing the feeds to 3-4 hour blocks to get her to take a longer feed but she still refuses if awake, and she never feeds any longer no matter if it’s 1 hour or 4 hours since her previous feed. We wind her well after feeds, and I always offer again afterwards but she is not having it.
She is pooing once every other day, loose ish yellow/tan/green tinged poos, and has 7-9 wet nappies a day, yet her weight is slowly tailing off her original 25th percentile and I believe it as a result of this fussy feeding cycle.
Is this reflux related? Or could it be a tongue tie related issue (which they have refused to cut until I can guarantee her to feed afterwards)?
Thank you!
