I've posted before about how DD (6 weeks) has started feeding almost hourly (for the last week - aarrgghh!), luckily only during the day though. I initially thought it was a growth spurt, or the cold she had, but the cold is pretty much gone, and a growth spurt wouldn't last this long right? Anyway, I'm not really posting about that, but about the way she seems to be latching on - she doesn't seem to be getting enough of the aereola, although it is difficult to tell because I have large breasts, so can't really see what she is doing. But my nipples get sore occasionally, and are often long and squashed when she comes off, and when I do manage to get a look it does seem as it there is quite a bit of aereola below her bottom lip.
But, she seems satisfied by feeds, which I wouldn't have thought she would be if the poor latch was stopping her getting enough milk. So I am wondering if the hourly feeding is becoming a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy - ie that she isn't getting much milk because of the latch, so is feeding more often, but because she is feeding more often she doesn't need as much - does this make sense? And if so how do I break the cycle? And how easy is it to re-teach a 6 week old how to latch on?
