Tommee tippee electric steam steriliser descaling

How do people descale their electric Tommee tippee steam steriliser? It says use white vinegar but I only have the star drops spray and reviews online are that people can't get rid of the smell after.

I don't know if the tommee tippee one is much different but we had a philips which I would put about a tablespoon of lemon juice in the water tray and switch it on, just long enough for it to get a bit warm and start bubbling over the limescale. Then switch it off. Limescale just wipes away with a bit of kitchen roll. Then wipe it over with a wet cloth.

I had this one and used white vinegar. Sat it in there for about half hour or longer If needed, then washed it out and ran it twice. I think you can get tablets but really never saw the point. I didn't have a problem with the smell as long as you rinse it and run it a few times I had no problem.

I don't think I turned mine on with the vinegar in it though if that makes a difference to the smell ...

I bought some descaling solution online which said it was suitable for sterilisers. You just mixed a small amount with water and put it on a cycle. It never left any smell, residue etc.

All electric ones are similar in design. I have Nuby and there is no need for strong descaling as you have to clean it regularly anyway. I find the build up is more like soft grime, covering metal plate with distilled vinegar for about 10 min is sufficient and then wiping it, rinsing, looks like new each time.

I use pure white vinegar- leave it in for a bit, tip it out, wipe it all out with kitchen roll, run it with water once and wipe it out again. I've found it takes less to build up if you dry whatever water is left at the end of a cycle up with kitchen roll before putting fresh water in.
