When, If and How to stop BF - emotional response -v- wanting to wear a nice bra again :)

Hi

My lo is coming up for 8 months and has been bf with the odd bottle for dream feeds.

She still has 4 bf a day at 7am, 11am, 2.30pm and 7pm. We are in the throes of weaning, very slowly as she clearly loves her milk and is not so bothered about solids.

I am wondering about when to move over to bottles. If we are out in public now it is hard to bf her as she is far to nosey to stay put so I often give her a bottle then but obviously that's a bit haphazard.

I love feeding her but am also finding in the evenings she mucks around a bit so am wondering which feed to change first and how I avoid engorgment.

My heart doesn't want to stop feeding her as it's such a nice thing to do but I think practicalities are becoming more of an issue, plus as my subject line says a selfish part of me would love to wear my lacy bras again

Just wondered what other peoples experiences were, when you switched, which feed you switched first and how you weaned completely from boob to bottle?

Thanks

Er....the bra thing is easily sorted Wear what you like and just drop the cup down to feed (that's what many mothers do beyond the first months, unless they are very large). Some mothers never wear nursing bras at all.

There are lacy maternity bras available - google lacy maternity bra and you'll see plenty.

One option for you would be to carry on what you're doing, so weaning from the breast happens slowly and gradually - replacing the breastfeeds with a bottle occasionally when it fits. Just play it by ear! Another option would be to aim to keep the feeds you and your baby like best, so you make sure you don't replace those ones.

There's no need to stop fully, if you don't want to, and breastmilk continues to be a nourishing drink, and a lovely thing to give, for as long as you want.

Hi. dd3 is 7months and I now only feed her myself at 7am and 7pm - she has two bottles during the day. I dropped the 10am feed for a bottle first and then waited a few weeks before dropping the mid afternoon feed as my boobs complained for a while!! I did this mainly for nursery and i still wanted to feed her myself at least partly - both because its good for baby and because i love it! Doing it this way, though, means i can now wear my nice bras again as I feed her before i get dressed and in the evening, just take the bra off as i do it in her bedroom so no issues with privacy! Feel i've got best of both worlds!
