So I started solids early due to bottle feeding aversions but then all of a sudden she started drinking her bottles so I stopped the solids and decided to wait till 6 months as I’d rather her drink the bottle than eat solids due to it being more nutritious but now that I’ve started solids again she clamps her gums down on the spoon doesn’t seem to understand that she’s supposed to open her mouth? Also she still seems to have the extrusion reflex as she does the tongue thing that babies under 6 months do when u try feed them I do baby led weaning with her too but she doesn’t eat anything just spits it out and it ends up on the floor but the reason I’ve started spoon feeding is because she is starting to not like her bottles anymore and has dropped from 4 bottles per day to 3 and now 2 bottles per day so I think her aversion is coming back and she will happily skip her bottles

Is she showing all the signs of being ready for food, being able to sit unaided etc? The tongue thing usually is one of the signs they aren't ready for weaning.

Early years practitioner here, I've worked in baby rooms for years. I echo the pp, is she showing signs of being ready. If not, give it a few weeks and try again. If she is, maybe thing about trying baby-led weaning instead of spoon feeding. Many babies prefer this and yours may be one of them. At six months they instinctively mouth everything anyway and gums are surprisingly good at mashing down cooked veg and toast etc. You could always attempt that and move onto a combination once she gets used to tasting foods. Don't worry too much if she isn't eating much, or any food, she will not let herself starve and will increase milk demands if necessary and she's not ready for food. One of my own sons was over 8 months before he swallowed anything other than milk. Every baby develops at their own rate and the range of average is quite large. As long as you're following her cues, you can't go far wrong. Also, as a side note, almost every parent I've worked with has had similar worries at one point or another, you're doing great Flowers

@ImInACage @Youcancallmeirrelevant she can sit on her own and very interested in food health visitor said it should start to fade away especially now that she’s started solids and is also now opening her mouth for spoon but still pushes food out it’s like she swallows half and pushes the other half out but very excitedly will open her mouth when she sees the spoon coming now
