Tongue tie confusion

My DS at nearly 8 months still has a noticeable snake tongue. He has always fed/latched fine and can stick his tongue out. However when he has a bottle milk leaks from the sides of his mouth. I'm worried he'll always leak fluids when drinking due to whatever is going on with his tongue.

My eldest also had a tie. Your DS has some symptoms, do they have any more from this list?

If so, id consider getting an assessment. DS had trouble weaning, trouble with sleep and had to have SLT.

How is he on solids?

Sucking from a teat and drinking from a cup are completely different so I wouldn't worry about his ability to drink fluids when older!

If a little dribbling is the only concern then he likely has pretty good tongue function. Especially if he is managing to eat solid foods.

You can't predict which children will go on to have other problems and there is not a solid evidence base to link tongue tie and speech problems so on vegetal for a baby it would only have been picked up and divided if causing a feeding problem.

He has been assessed a couple of times when small and I was told that there was a slight tongue tie, but not bad enough to require being snipped. Never had issues with weight gain or latching. He’s been such a massive crier I’ve been preoccupied with that.
We have been weaning the past couple of months. Interested food, but a lot of pushing food back out with the tongue. However I did witness him chew and swallow a tomato! Maybe it’s learning the process rather than the tongue tie causing problems.
