16 week old crying when breastfeeding

My 16 week old is EBF and now the last couple of weeks he has been getting really upset crying midway through a feed. Any ideas why?

When my EBF baby was around 4 months everything breastfeeding started to change really.
She would cry sometimes when I put her on the breast even though I knew she was hungry. Stopped being able to feed to sleep, was much more distracted when feeding and would generally just be a bit more fussy around feeding.
Suggestions seemed to be milk not flowing how baby wants it (too fast/too slow). Big developmental leaps happening around this time making it hard for babies to focus etc.
Have a read of these articles as they helped me understand it a bit more

My baby is 9 months now and I still breastfeed. The way I fed her had to change a little for me. But generally we got past this phase and she’s much better now. Feeds to sleep again, no crying on the breast (but still distracted if there is too much going on - that’s never gone!!)

I hope that’s helpful and good luck!

I second all of the above. Around 4 months my little boys feeding changed so much and I was sure something medical was going on, we ended up exploring reflux but eventually felt for him it was all developmental. He was fussy, crying if I tried to latch him, fed much shorter, would be off and on constantly. It's possible he became frustrated with the speed of milk flow and he also just became a lot harder to deal with in general at that time. I found taking the pressure of feeds to be helpful, as long as weight was tracking OK. Kathryn stagg did a post on this period which really resonated.

I am having the same issue with my 4 month old to the point she’s hardly breastfeeding at all during the day and when she does she’s crying/ fussy. I have introduced formula from a bottle and she is taking that much better. Hope things have improved for you.
