Nursing chair - do you need a rocker / glider?

Hi ladies, FTM here :) Hoping for some advice on nursing chairs as I have no idea what the best option is. I’m looking at the OBaby or Il Tutto glider / rocking armchair styles (as shown in the pic) but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere near SW London where I could try it out before investing £400-500! I’m worried it’ll be quite unsteady and difficult to get into and out of while holding a baby, and maybe a stationary chair with footstool is better? Or do people’s babies really love / need the rocking / gliding movement to be soothed? Def want a comfy chair but unsure if I need a moving one. Any advice would be so helpful! Thank you :)

No, you don't need one at all.

The comfiest chair I have fed a newborn in was an old fashioned rocking chair with arms. Some cushions and pillows on one of those and it would be very much more practical than the enormous "nursing" glider chairs.

Having said that, I have breastfed four babies well into toddlerhood/preschool years and I've never had a specific chair. I fed them wherever I was; bed, floor, sofa, bus, cafe, mountain, train, aeroplane, leisure centre .....

I just sat on the sofa, or on the bed 🤷‍♀️

Nursing cushions ARE useful though, especially in the first few months.

I have a bad back and knee, had a recliner pre c section and wouldn't breastfeed without. My son was breastfeeding 8h a day. But you need to be careful not to be so comfortable that you fall asleep. Now I have a power chair with massage it sends the baby to sleep at nap times. I have big hips and big baby so no problems with the baby falling into the gap. I woul

Totally unnecessary purchase. You won’t be feeding baby in the nursery - you’ll be feeding baby on the sofa, sat up in bed etc.

Baby won’t be in their room until 6 months old at least.

Also this chair is not suitable because of the arms. Some on here say all you need is a breastfeeding pillow I found them unhelpful. My recliner has this style of arms and they allowed me to rest the baby on them.

The IKEA POANG is perfect tbh. You don't need to beeka the bank.

Short answer, no. I love antiques and happened to have a Victorian nursing chair (with arms) that was crazy comfortable to breastfeed my newborn in the early days. But I didn’t use it once my babies had head control. As a preference I also like to feed lying down especially at night. A designated chair wouldn’t get much use because I feed where I am: living room, kitchen, coffee shop, bed or whatever.

@Labradoodlie agree with the feed wherever comment, I think my highlight would be the communion rail.

I think my worst/ best was in a very crowded tube carriage stuck at Camden Town. It was better than her screaming....

No op, you don't need a special chair

Ikea Poang did the job brilliantly for me.

No, footstool way more useful. I sat at one end of the couch with a footstool and a cushion at my back. To put your feet up and bend your knees puts you in a much more natural and comfortable position for feeding. Then space on the couch for books/kindles/remote controls/blanket/muslin/snacks/leakproof flask of tea/leakproof bottle of water.

@Annie2222 I'm choosing between the same two. Did you get one and if so which? Would you recommend? Thanks
