Just weaned 13 month old off the breast(easier than I thought..by going cold turkey). She has never had a bottle and drinks water from the cup but will not drink normal milk. I don't think she likes the taste. Is there anything I can do as I am really worried about her calcium intake.I give her cheese and yogurt which she enjoys but don't think that this can be enough to compensate. Any advice gratefully received. TIA.

Have you tried Soya milk? Apparantly it's a bit sweeter than cow's milk, and it's akin to breast milk.... Failing that (don't shoot me) try some powdered milk shake in the milk (this advice came from my HV) I try it when my DS isn't having any of his milk...

DD1 wouldn't take milk when I weaned her off formula (12 months). Like you, I was really stressed for a few weeks.

The HV told me that you only need 3 yogurts a day to get the calcium intake. also, I think aprocots have calcium in them, adn other dried fruits. And make lots of milky puddings - rice/semolina. and you can add milk to soup.

finally, I gave up worrying. Still offered her milk in a cup. One day she just started drinking it and never looked back. In my case, I think it was the temperature actually, as she had her formula at room temperature, milk obviously came from the fridge.

Have you tried heating the milk? compared to breastmilk, it must seem so cold and tasteless...

Leafy green veg, cauliflower, almonds and tahini are all rich in calcium too.

You could also try milk in her breakfast, so porridge, cereal etc. The HV told me that a pint of dairy (although I think that is alot, although thats what I aim towards) so DS has about 6 oz milk in breakfast and a 6 oz drink of warm milk at bedtime, then like you say, yogurts, cheese, etc.... I also offer him a cup of milk in the afternoon. (he doesn't always drink this though)

Interesting to know about apricots and the veg, I never new they had calcium in them.....
