grunting

My lo is 5 weeks old and typically will fall asleep after say 20 mins of lying on his back behaving perfectly normally, be quietly asleep for 5 mins and then start thrutching and grunting. I always make sure I wind him before putting him down although when I get him out and burp him again he is usually sick. I can't understand it as he lies there playing perfectly happily beforehand.

everyone insists its just wind, but why when he falls asleep?

My DTs were exactly the same - really annoying at night when you are trying to sleep! A friend of mine said it must be like sleeping with two barnyard animals and I couldn't agree more. Anyway, they did just grow out of it, although they are still quite gassy and do writhe around quite a bit if they're not properly winded. Both mine were quite refluxy so I don't know if that has anything to do with it...but just wanted to say that it does seem to eventually sort itself out, and you will learn to sleep through it too!

Sounds more like the change from deep sleep to lighter sleep to me. DS does this every 30 mins to an hour even now at 3.5yrs old. Makes for a rather bruising night if we co-sleep. Poor DH gets even less sleep because apparently I do the same every so often .
