1YO- Move from Neocate to Oat milk??? help

my little boy has just turned 1. He’s on Neocate LCP prescription formula for a suspected cows milk allergy (has been on this since 8weeks old, does have a dietician but they never get in touch and are impossible to get hold of)
He still has 4 bottles in 24hr 6am,10.30am,3.30pm,7pm - is this too much now?
And also should i be stopping formula and moving to an alpro growing up milk (soya/oat) for example?? Not sure what is best to do.

We moved to Oatly Barista oat milk at 1yo and dropped bottles, offering milk in a cup and in his food.

Between 10 and 12 months they only need 400 ml a day so I think yes, he's probably having a bit too much! Wink

If they're happy to still prescribe the milk I'd carry on with that gut now but try to get him down to the recommended 300 ml per day over the next month.

10 years ago the advice was to avoid soya because it contains oestrogens. DS was breast fed but by 12m was only on milk first thing in the morning and at bedtime. He started on neocate at 12mo when I struggled to express enough for his morning cereal and other meals. He drank mainly water from a cup at that age and we cooked with neocate.

By 5 he was ok with dairy but he still dislikes the taste of cows milk so we still drink oatmilk at home!

Thanks everyone! i know he’s probs having too much in a day. Usually averages about 18oz per day so about 540ml.
Today i have dropped his 10.30am bottle and offered him some Aplro oat milk but he wasn’t for it. He has been much crankier though without the bottle :( but i’ll carry on not giving it and then in a few weeks drop the 3.30pm bottle too. He seems to hate every single sippy cup i buy at the moment though so putting any milk in a cup that isn’t a bottle is hard work!

Did you offer a snack as well as the milk?

AmberM2022 · 07/10/2023 13:27

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto no i don’t actually.
So his day looks like
6am bottle
7am breakfast
snack 10am
bottle 10.30am
lunch 11.30-12
snack 1.30
tea 3.30 at nursery / 5pm at home
bottle 3.30 (not if had tea at nursery 2 days a week)
Supper 6.30
bottle 7

I would like to simplify that and make my life easier! So any tips would be great!

If he's had a snack at 10 he really doesn't need that bottle, I agree. Maybe bring the snack forward to 9.30 if he's usually awake then and make it a bit more substantial?

AmberM2022 · 07/10/2023 13:31

so he usually naps at 9am for an hour and 2pm for an hour. I’m thinking now, snack straight after nap like 10.15 but make it more like malt loaf or a crumpet or something?

If you are still going to offer some milk oat/soya are you suposed to offer it with meals? or just anytime in the day?

Like a PP said, I'm not sure about the soya. Certainly when mine were young it wasn't advised. Also around half of people with CMPA react to soya as the proteins are supposed to be similar.

You could try fortified oat milk in a cup. If you're offering something like malt loaf or breadsticks and hummus as a snack, you could always offer a cup of milk alongside it?

Thanks everyone i have started offering Alpro oat milk at his snack time. He’s not really taking to it much just a couple of sips but he doesn’t seem to miss the Neocate bottle so we have just left it at that!…Now in the next few weeks will try wean him off his 3.30 bottle!!
