Formula Amount - NHS or brand guidelines?

Do you follow the amount directed on the back of the formula pack or the NHS guidelines of 150-200ml per kg of body weight?

For example my baby is now 2 months old and weighs 4.8kg which equates to 720ml of formula a day minimum according to the NHS guidelines. Meanwhile the Kendamil guidelines recommend 600ml for 1-2 months and 750ml for 3 months.

My baby averages around 640ml a day, I'm not sure if I should be worried about this?

Is your baby gaining weight well and producing enough wet nappies? If so probably nothing really to worry.

Different brands may have different guidance too. I'm on Aptamil and for two months baby it's 750ml and 900ml for three months.

No. I follow what the baby says, which is feed on demand. No notice is taken on amounts. How does a baby know what it is supposed to have?

Thanks for your input. I've just looked into this and Kendamil recommend less formula than some of the other brands, despite having a similar calorie content.

I do try to follow my baby's cues, I just worry that she isn't taking in enough as her weight gain is very slow. However, she's a happy, healthy and content baby.

Both of mine were formula fed and I didn’t give guidelines like this a second thought, tbh I didn’t really even know such things existed. If baby is happy and contented, gaining weight and weeing/pooing frequently they will be getting enough. Don’t over think it.
