Hi! Thanks so much for asking, has really cheered me up on a wobbly day!

Don't know if you saw my posts re visit to the paed - was REALLY reassuring - will copy and paste rather than re-hash!! But I'm still so worried about her teensiness...also I THINK she has started to speed up her feeding time a little bit -which ordinarily would be great, but I am left panicking she hasn't had enough. Ditto re sleeping - she's started going an hour longer, which under other circumstances would be wonderful but I wake up in a panic (before she does!) thinking she has probably lost weight overnight [stupid mummy smiley]

He said only to weigh her monthly, which I know is sensible, but also scary for me....

shameless copying and pasting from another thread, but have been to see paed...

well ladies and gents...i heart my paediatrician

what a sensible man!

dd is FINE!

he took such a thorough history, and asked really sensible bf-ing questions, like how quickly we'd got bf-ing established in the hospital, did i feed from both sides etc.

he used the thrive line acetates and showed us that even when dd dropped weight she still hadn't crossed any thrive lines.

he mentioned her "finding her own place" on the curve.

he understood the affect top ups could have.

he ALSO mentioned the affect that people uneccessarily undermining your confidence could have on your bf-ng .

he saw no reason to be giving dd formula.

he advised that she should only be weighed monthly, or fortnightly at the very most.

my faith is restored! i was about to say in the NHS but we had to pay to see this one...worth it though

basically we knew all of these things, but much nicer to hear an expert telling you them.

i can't say i'm instantly going to stop worrying, and i still feel annoyed/defensive when people tell me what a "little doll" she is. might get a t-shirt for her that says "my paed says I'm just fine thank you"

PHEW!!

oh wow, he sounds fantastic caz. I never knew about "thrive lines" that must have been really reasuuring for you.

I don't think you're stupid either- you get used to how they do things and then they go and change the rules lol and as mums we are programmed to panic over stuff like that, and especially after the rocky start you had you're bound to feel a bit wobbly when things like that happen.
speeding up her feeding is probably a really good sign that she is getting better at it and getting the milk out more effectively which is grand. Remember, she knows when she is hungry- so trust her to tell you

You should seek out Hatrick on here. her youngest 2 girls are also diddy. my ds2 who is 18 weeks weighs about as much as her dd3 did at 9 months lol
and they're fab, healthy girls.

I had never heard of them either, then coincidently came across them in an old post just before we were going to the paed. They are like acetate overlays that he put over the growth charts, the lines on them are more horizontal, or at less of a curve if you know what i mean. He said crossing a centile line was no biggie but crossing these lines (which means a much bigger drop IYSWM) definitely is. (DD hadn't!)

I think that is half our problem - she doesn't seem to be a very hungry baby! I lift her every 3hours at least, but if asleep she would happily sleep on.

On the upside though she definitely seems to be getting better at it, much longer periods of active feeding.

Aarrrrgh this will be stress free one day...[grin}

Really appreciate you asking, and will go and look for Hatrick!

bless her. my first was like that, although he seemed to keep putting on the pounds
ds2 is another matter entirely. up at least every 2 hours for more food.
wanna swap???? lol
