Help getting baby to take bottle 10 weeks

Hi all,

Baby has been (almost) exclusively breast fed up til now but I want to introduce bottles. Always planned to combi feed and tried a couple of bottles in the early days but health visitor spotted a tongue tie at our 3 week check so decided to wait until procedure had been done before introducing bottle properly. The procedure was delayed due to lost referral and then they said to wait 2 weeks. She now won’t suck on bottle properly, isn’t closing her mouth and seems to be playing with the bottle with her tongue.

I’m keen to establish bottle feeding so I can leave her with other people every now and again.

does anyone have any advice?

Am in similar position. 14 weeks ebf. Tried pumping and feeding with a bottle but no success so far. Only advice from HV is keep trying.

I had this issue with one of mine. It was like Goldilocks and the 100 teats... 🙄

In the end, I had success with NUK Latex teats (0-6 m, S - slow flow) as they're very close in shape to a nipple when a baby is breastfeeding. The teats are also very soft, not like the silicone teats commonly available.

I have a Nuk too and that's the one she has allowed in her mouth (not drank from) from without screaming!!!

Never managed to get either of mine to take a bottle. Just to warn you. Once they are 6 months started with cups and straw cups.

We just kept trying! I have DD a bottle a day from about 8 weeks - just 2oz. It took about a month until she’d ever really accept it, and now (17 weeks) she happily scoffs 3oz formula a day. We had a couple of different bottles and she showed a clear preference for Tommee Tippee over Nuk.

Elder DD refused bottles and formula at all, which made going back to work stressful. I was quite desperate to crack it with this one.

Someone other than you. If DD can smell your milk then she'll know it's not necessary to take a bottle. Try other positions to breastfeeding also- one family of mine, dad had success bottle feeding baby laid out next to him not in arms.
