Breast milk supply for 'big' babies?

Ds is a week old and I'm exclusively bf. He was 9lb8 at birth and has only lost 1.5oz since then and is producing lots of wet and dirty (bright yellow) nappies. I've had a few comments since then that I might struggle to keep up with him, especially when he has periods when he wants to feed regularly (normally going 2-3 hours then sleeping till next feed but sometimes in the afternoon or evening he gets a bit fractious and I feed more often). Dh thinks this might mean I'm not keeping up with him but I'm not convinced- dd was 7lb 2 at birth and fed much more often and sporadically!
Any advice/reassurance would be much appreciated. I'm determined to continue bf (managed 18 months with dd) but I could do with some reassurance that my body can keep up!

Thanks for all of these comments. Ds was really unsettled last night and fed quite a lot but he seemed to have a lot of trapped wind and wanted comfort rather than milk while he cleared it out.
MW told me I should only feed from one side per feed but sometimes I do this, he falls asleep, I put him down and he wakes up again 20 minutes later hungry again (and then has another huge feed) so I'm wondering if I should offer both sides regardless of her advice (which has been a bit ropy in the past) I can hardly remember anything from when I bf dd, now 4!
Lovely to see all these fellow big babies- have to say I wasn't expecting mine!

I had a 10lb 9 oz baby and a 9lb 8oz baby, Both bf with no tops ups (despite everyone saying I needed to). I used to always try both sides in the first few weeks to build up my supply and then went down to one side each time. Except for the occassional growth spurt.

The advice I had about changing breasts was this: always empty out one breast completely first, and then, if the baby still wants more, move over to the other side. This is to make sure they get enough of the rich milk that comes later in the feed, and also, clearing out a breast of milk helps stimulate your body to make more.

If your baby is falling asleep after just a little bit of one side, and then waking up hungry soon, I'd put him back on the side he'd started to finish. Kind of like nodding off after having a starter and then waking up for the main course.

I'm pretty sure he's emptying the breast before falling asleep, think that's why he does go to sleep! He has a good long feed and only occasionally do I think he could have had more from one side, hence thinking it might be an idea to try both sides...
It's all so confusing!

LaundryFairy, but you cannot totally empty one breast, there will always be milk there.

The guide to swapping sides is the baby's behaviour.

Haylstones, your midwife is wrong - routinely offering one side only is only ok if the baby tells you by his behaviour he never wants the second side. She needs some re-training!

Just wanted to add my thoughts, DD2 was 9lbs 3ozs born, never lost an oz and was 10lbs at a week old. Everyone told me I could never feed a baby that size myself for 6 months but I did. Remember loads of cluster feeding at the start as well. Womens bodies are amazing things!

Mine we birth average at birth (7lbs 11 & 7lbs 3) but with 6 weeks had shot up to the 98th & 91st centiles respectively (and stayed on them). Exclusively breastfed until 6 months as well.

Oh it does annoy me when people say you can't breastfeed a big baby
