Can you over feed a 12 day old?

Long story but mixed feeding due to weight loss. Had terrible night and today LO not really interested in breasts just the cup fed formula or EBM I can manage. She seems to have had loads though, much more than previous days. Should we just let her keep at it until she's satisfied? Is it possible to mistake hunger cries for tired cries?

Feeding has been such a rollacoster, yesterday was great... this may turn out to be the longest mothers day of my life!

if you want to breastfeed exclusively, then go for it ! if you were overfeeding , your baby would be bringing back up a lot of milk

there are frequent growth spurts at the newborn stage, one around 14 days old, IIRC, so it is possible she is just extra hungry...just keep offering her feeds.

I have no idea about formula but my bf dd used to just throw up when she ate too much.

The first time she projectile puked was when she was 2 weeks old, it must have gone about 3 feet. Then she wanted to feed again.

possetting, i.e bringing back a mouthful of mikl, is normal, muslin cloths very useful for catching it! hiccups normal too.

howbreastfeedingworks.com/tag/breastfeeding good webiste here with the four main free helpline numbers on there

lulu - should I just roll with the cup feeding then offering the breast even if she just seems to take it for comfort?

yes you shoudl try to feed her directly as often as possible, whenever she shows slightest interest, even if it appears to be "just for comfort", or there could be a risk that your expressing may not seem be enough to keep up with her demands so you end up supplementing relatively more and more.

i would offer hte breast, she is far more efficient at getting milk out of the breast than the pump, and will help stimulate and establish your supply. breast first, then cup , i would have thought but am by no means an expert! newborns do this, you think you have it all sorted, then they totally throw you!
