Anyone taken maxalon?

That's it really.

I think the domperidone has stopped working and am desperate to continue bfing.

My bf counsellor is thinking about maxalon but says there's an increased risk of PND which i'm on the brink of with my milk problems but would be interested in other's experiences before i discuss this further with my BFC midweek

Just looked it up and I don't have any of the symptoms

just wondered as this could be a reason for lactating problems

Pixiefish · 08/03/2008 08:28

determination- it's a medical mystery as to my problems- my bf consultant is at a total loss as is my heamatologist and gp's. I was totally fine with dd1

how do you find the more milk?

Pixiefish · 08/03/2008 13:40

think it's made some difference but not an awful lot.

I had already started taking Milk Thistle and drinking Fennel tea before I started on the More Milk plus (the one with the goat's rue in it) and I think I have more milk but nowhere near being 'full'- nowhere enough for mastitis or anything. Been on it nearly a week now as well

how often are your breasts being stimulated?

Pixiefish · 08/03/2008 21:42

dd is feeding probably 10-15 times a day, I use a hospital breast pump twice a day and have used a supplementer. I'm seeing a bf counsellor and we really have tried everything

i am racking my brain for answers here...

according to Dr Jack Newman, some reasons for low milk supply are:

  • taking oral estrogens- birth control pill?
  • he mentions herbs such as sage and parsley in this section but states he doesn't know much about them??
  • retained placenta

these are the only other things i could find!

Pixiefish · 09/03/2008 09:39

I have read all the Dr jack newman papers available to the lay person and as I say I see a Haematologist and Sharon breward who is vice chair of the ABM and who also discusses my case with Pam casey- chair of the ABM.

It's a medical mystery- particularly as I very successfully fed my dd1 till she was 2y 10 months

Oh pixie,

maybe someone someday will give you some answers and a solution. You have done great for carrying on so long with this.

Pixiefish · 09/03/2008 18:32

determination- it's been very very hard. I have had a 50 mile round trip every week since she's been born to see Sharon on top of feelig crap and trying to feed her as often as possible. Plus I have a 4yo to look after and dh works long hours. I won't pretend it's been easy and I've been on the verge of giving up a few times but then Sharon would come up with another suggestion that worked for a while

I fed dd1 till she was 2y and 10 m and had said I'd feed this one till she was one but tbh I can't see me going much past 6 months (I have 8 weeks till she's 6 months) the way things are- not that I don't want to but I don't think I'll be physically able to.

THanks for all your concerns and advice x

hows things been lately pixie?

Pixiefish · 12/03/2008 16:39

no better really although dd2 is gaining weight- I'm still not feeling 'full'. She's still having a couple of formula bottles . TFA

OP posts:
determination · 12/03/2008 21:50

There is no real reason you should feel "Full" though. As long as she is gaining weight you must be producing enough, No?

Pixiefish · 13/03/2008 08:33

she's gaining cos I'm also giving her formula. I feel empty a lot of the time and she gets frustrated and I know she's getting nothing owt. We'll just keep struggling with the mixed feeding for as long as we can. thanks for all your help
