cow and gate growing up milk - does it taste of vanilla?

I'm in the process of moving my dd (18mo) onto cow's milk but she still has formula in the morning. She was on Cow and Gate organic number 2 but they've stopped making it and i now can't find it. i bought Cow and Gate 'growing up'(4?) milk today but I see it has vanilla in the ingredients
i don't want to open it to taste, in case i have to return it but I wondered if anyone has used it and does it taste of vanilla?

my dd is very fussy!
TIA!

Not sure whether it tastes of vanilla but it certainly smells very sweet and vanilla-y. I started giving my 18 m/o dd this when i stopped bf and she loves it. She has never had any other formula though so she can't compare. Am also finding it expensive as my local shops only do the ready made stuff which costs £3.90 for 4x500ml. Am so thrilled to have finally finished bf that I am happy to pay . She also only as it once a day so not too bad

Does she not accept cows milk in bottle? Do C&G not do a non-organic no2 which would taste the same as the organic one?

thanks snookie. they do a number 2 not organic one but this one was on special offer so i got it! serves me right! don't want her to get used to something nice (sweet and vanilla-y sounds nice!) and then not accept the cow's milk. she still has both feeds from a bottle; she'll only drink water from a cup, she justs chucks milk out of her cup! i think i'll ask boots if they'll swap it for a number 2.
thanks again.

oh dear, yes, i managed somehow to get ds3 hooked on this stuff from 1 yr. i tried giving him cows milk and he wouldnt accept it... cant remember details now but he cant have been talking much of any other liquids either which is why i was wimp enough to keep giving him this overpriced, meaningless stuff.

yes it does taste quite vanilla-y. one fo the 'tricks' i tried to get him off the stuff and onto normal cows milk was to add a couple of drops of vanilla essence to cows milk...

in the end i think i just bit the bullet and stopped buying it.

i do think its just a way of fleecing nervous inexperienced parents out of money they may not have. after 1 yr, cows milk perfectly adequate!

BoysOnToast · 02/03/2008 11:53

youd think id have known better, wouldnt you, given that he was 3rd baby in 3 yrs, and i hadnt done this with any of the others? doh.

colditz · 02/03/2008 11:54

Cut her normal milk down gradually by topping it up with cows milk. Put more and more cows milk in, and less formula, and the switch will be so smooth she wont notice.

colditz · 02/03/2008 11:55

People are much more indulgent with the baby they know is their last!

BoysOnToast · 02/03/2008 11:56

yeah, maybe colditz.

i tried the gradula diluting thing btw, he was having NONE of it. [fussy little sod]

Psychomum5 · 02/03/2008 11:58

colditz........don;t get me started on the indulging the last baby.

I am still paying the price of indulging my last baby......he's a little git smiling angel at times!!!

as for the change-over of milk.......if you have enough left of the other formula (altho from the op guess not?), then do a fast cross-over. if she has cows-milk all other times then she will probably cope a lot easier than you may imagine.

BoysOnToast · 02/03/2008 12:06

yes, in the end, all the gently gently approaches were a bit like banging head against brick wall. 'twas lovely when i stopped .

olivo · 02/03/2008 17:17

thnaks folks. i think i wont give her the vanilla-y one (although its starting to sound quite nice ) and will get some normal number 2 milk and try the gradual dilution. she will take the cows milk at bedtime as it has an omega oil in it so probably hasnt noticed the change but she just wont drink it in the morning!
thanks for your advice.
