I think it can be an indication that they are not digesting it properly. Then again DD had this occasionally and was fine (after a few trips to the GP and HV )

However I think that in such young babies anything that is out of the ordinary you should take seriously so if it has been more than one or two like this it might be worth popping to the Drs with LO.

Hi Belstaff - have a look back at some old threads, as there are so many on this subject. Nothing much to worry about though, I don't think. Hopefully someone with more exp will be along soon, but in the meantime, check back old threads.

Baby poo comes in all shades, and changes as new bacteria colonise the gut (normal and assential process). In an otherwise well baby who is feeding well, gaining weight etc. I would have no concerns. If you are concerned about whether the child is thriving, a chat with the HV can be reassuring!

IME green poo in both my babies was always accompanied by colic and wind and when I cut out chocolate and dairy from my diet green poo turned mustardy yellow and colic and wind subsided. Having said that poo from a baby comes in many colours, shapes, scents and sizes and if not accompanied by wind / colic / other causes for concern don't worry too much...

I had this with DS many moons ago (it was a river of green poo, at the Drs, whilst she was checking his hips AND we forgot to bring a spare nappy - new parents eh!)

Anyway, I over heard a BF counsellor (and midwife) telling another mother that it can be too much foremilk, not enough hindmilk - apparently foremilk has more lactose in it and can upset baby's tummy, possible causes maybe switching breasts too soon, so baby gets a double blast of foremilk OR topping up with formula after a short breast feed (that's what did it for our DS for sure)
