Why would a thrushy nipple bleed?

Have had thrush for ages (long story, been through all the meds for me and LO, still going) but every now and then the nipple bleeds as well. Is a thrushy nipple more susceptible to bleeding? And does that in turn make it harder to get rid of the thrush?
Thanks

hm...what sort of treatment are you using?
I am just asking, because at first I was always discriped Dactarin Oral, (for the nipple as well as Baby's mouth)...but thrush just came back all the time. The GP then discribed me ordinary dactarin, which I would put on after a feed, and wipe off before a feed, whatever residue there was...well, this took the skin of my nipples of pretty swiftly and made them bleed and ever so sore, so, I started using Lansinoh inbetween, this worked really well.

Interesting! I started with daktarin cream just for me, then got oral gel for LO and fluconazole (was told not to bother with cream because it would have worked by then if it was going to), then antib's (flucloxacillin) and haven't been back since so am using both daktarins again. But while I was on fluconazole I was using Lansinoh too but wasn't sure if it was trapping the thrush in, so I stopped. Might get back on that then.

Thanks for the reply anyway and I hope you are currently thrush free!

well, you should always treat yourself and the lil one at the same time, as otherwise you will reinfect each other.
Also, you are probably aware of this already, but you have to sterilise anything that comes in contact with Baby's mouth, and your bras , presuming you wearing a bra now, will have to be washed as hot as possible...!
I assume the anti b's were for somehting else...but anti b's do make it more likely to get thrush, so, when taking them, high doses of probiotic bacteria capsules drinks, etc...are the way to go, to reduce the risk of thrush occurring.

Lol, I am thrush free But then, my bf days are well and truely over now....my youngest has weaned himself off about 3 years ago...
