I made DS 7 months a mini rice pudding with sultanas and nutmeg and breastmilk. He loved it!

I used to cook with breastmilk for dd when she was very first trying solids.

I also used to whip a boob out and express straight into the pan sometimes . I'm not an organised person.

I'm occasionally tempted to mahr DH's tea with breastmilk and see if he notices...

Naetha · 28/02/2008 19:29

mahr = make

It doesn't taste good in coffee. My mad mum once put some of DS's rejected EBM in her coffee as the hotel room had run out of moo milk. Far too sweet for either of us !

Lyra75 · 28/02/2008 20:00

Any mashed veggies I give DS I mix in a bit of EBM. I've made cheese sauce, pancakes, porridge and scrambled egg with EBM. I've been tempted to see if DH notices too, but the idea of expressing enough for me and DH's meals too just made me wince so it's reserved for DS only!

I've wondered recently, actually it was DH, who wondered first, why there isn't a brand/line of breast milk goods for sale.. breast milk soap was his suggestion, other than most people's repulsion at the idea (though why as there are people who happily drink urine.. not for me.. would imagine there is a how to best preserve/storage issue to consider... but there are cultures that feed breast milk to the elderly etc for the goodness.. so why not in Western culture?

(apologies for any sp mistakes feel a bit tipsy on a couple of Guiness

Someone on MN once sold soap made from breastmilk.
I used to cook a rice pudding with strawberry puree as ds3 refused to drink from a bottle and I had gone to so much trouble to express the milk I was damned if it was going to waste!

hairycaterpillar · 28/02/2008 22:32

Have made cheese sauce and once had scones made with breastmilk (not my own) and they were the best scones I have ever tasted. I had a freezer full of the stuff and like you chipmonkey I refused to see it wasted.

Breast milk makes the best white Russians. Fact.

I once read a strange (fictional) book and one of the characters was fortunate in that she lost loads of weight whilst b/f. She didn't want to lose this welcome "side effect" so continued expressing loads of milk every day for years after her dc were weaned. (extended expressing rather than extended b/f) Anyway, rather than chucking it away (so the story went) she used it in cooking, regularly. Iirc, one of her specialities was lasagne with a nice white sauce that unsuspecting guests loved.

I use it to add to baby cereal in small amounts when starting weaning. Now I have read some of these posts I am going to use up some of my supplies in the freezer (but probably just for the baby's food not for general consumption...)

moondog · 28/02/2008 23:01

Someone on MN once told a funny story of making a hot chocolate for herself with the EBM her baby had refused.

onepieceoflollipop · 28/02/2008 23:06

moondog it wasn't me but like others here I could understand her doing that. Once the baby has tried it then as we know it can't be kept and used again. Bet that hot choc was lovely. b/m is really sweet. (mine is probably extra sweet with all the chocolate I guzzle)

I made breastmilk butter a couple of times for dd who was allergic to dairy. It was a beautiful pale white and tasted very mild - gave some to dh on toast and he didn't object to the taste - ok so he didn't know what he was eating...

Recipe: breastmilk in glass jar - shake till butter forms in little pat, pour off liquid.
