Do baby’s get better at bottle feeding after having tongue tie snipped?

My baby is being assessed tomorrow for a tongue and lip tie I definitely think she has a tie, bottle feeding has been such a stressful experience for us both so far she’s 14 weeks old and I think now starting to get bottle aversion drinks a little bit of milk from the bottle before refusing anymore even starts crying when I put her bib on her because she knows the bottle is coming that’s when I will get out the dropper and feed her the rest of the bottle drop by drop drs aren’t concerned because she’s gaining weight but the only reason she’s going weight weight is because I make sure she drinks the daily recommended amount even using a dropper and feeding her drop by drop if she had it her way she wouldn’t drink even half the daily recommended amount every day feeding is so stressful, I’m so tired of every bottle being like this it should be a bonding experience for us I’m so tired of trying to find different ways to get her to drink I just want her to take a bottle normally if she has a lip tie and they still refuse to do anything I will go private to get it fixed but will it be worth it? Do they change once they get the tie snipped?

It doesn’t improve straight away, it takes time as baby needs to relearn how to use their tongue. Is the person you are seeing providing good oral exercises for you to do? And have they recommended you see an osteopath to relieve tension?

in regards to the aversion my baby developed this and I followed the Rowena Bennett method and it worked for us, I know a few people that have had success with it but it’s quite stressful doing the programme. In an ideal world you would rectify the aversion first as the aversion might become worse after the tongue tie division and baby might outright refuse anything going into the mouth

as for recommended daily amount this is only a recommendation. Baby will drink how much they need they are quite sufficient at this (the book goes through all this). My baby never drank more than 20oz a day and that was up until 6 months old. All the other babies drank way more than he ever did

@SassyPants87 when I let her drink what she wanted and her control the amount she started to go down the centiles that’s when i started feeding her with a dropper or I wait for her to fall asleep and feed her when her guard is down

@Lollibert how many centiles were they dropping? Look up ‘catch down growth’. I thought my baby was dropping centiles, which he was. But actually it was catch down growth and settled on 9th centile and has done since about 3 months old (he’s 10 months now)

I'm afraid the more pressure you apply to feed the worse the aversion will become :(

@SassyPants87 is this ok? What I did today was I stopped trying to feed her as soon as she pushed the bottle away with her tongue and rocked her to sleep and fed her when she was in a deep sleep and didn’t know what was happening but anytime she was awake and pushed the bottle away immediately stopped trying and didn’t put any pressure on her
