6 day old baby can go 5+ hours without feed - normal?

My DS2 is 6 days old and was born 8lbs. He can go HOURS without waking up to feed. I try and change his nappy every 2 hours and try feed him every 3-4 hours. Sometimes he wakes himself sometimes I wake him.
He's currently combi fed - breast first then formula topup - as I've waited for my milk to come in and resolve tongue tie issues etc. I know because of forumla he can go a little longer if I don't wake him.

This is my second child - DD1 was completely different, firstly I was told to feed her every 2 hours which I did religiously, she was also combi fed. I had postpartum depression with her and really struggled to breastfeed so I did everything meticulously, 'by the book'. I never let her go over 2 hours without feeding or changing.

I have been a little relaxed this time around, and have been told up to 3 or 4 hours is fine.

Last night I slept right through my alarm and realised I didnt change his nappy or fed him for 5 hours...but he wasn't bothered, he hadn't poo'd, and I had to wake him up to feed him which means he could have gone longer had I not realised.

I'm really surprised at how much he sleeps. I feel terrible at the thought of starving him, I can't believe I didn't feed him for that long. Is this normal? Anyone with similar experiences?

I had similar with DS in the early days (he’s not sleeping as long now he’s 8wo). I was told that so long as he’s got wet nappies, is growing, and generally well (eg not limp) not to worry about him sleeping too long.

I never wake my babies at night as long as they've regained their birth weight and are gaining. They wake if they're hungry.

Feed 3-4 hourly in in the day depending how sleepy they are. I wouldn't worry!

My first was like this from birth with bf only so no idea what he was getting. As others have said, if he's not jaundiced, healthy, gaining weight, wet nappies, alert when needed etc, it's totally fine. He was a biggish baby, so maybe can take more at a feed. Just relax and go with the flow. I did find mine made it up with long/ high volume daytime feeds and that's fine. But if you're worried about anything, check with your mw/hv.
