Weaning, formula and smelly sick

DD has silent reflux, but has had the odd sick-y episode. She is on omeprazole for it, the lowest dose the GP said she should have for her weight.

She’s 6 1/2 months now, and has been weaning slowly since a few days before her 6 month mark (HV approved). We started on veg, and she has also had prune and apple. She has had the most horrendous smelling wind, and has gone from pooing every 2-3 days to every 5 or so. She wakes herself up crying and farting multiple times a night since starting solids, even though we don’t feed after midday.

She has been combi and then formula fed all her life (I have PCOS and had issues with my milk supply). She has always been on Aptamil and is never a big milk drinker, but no obvious issues. I wanted to try her on a different one in the hope she might like it more, and HV agreed fine to try a stage 2 and see if it agrees with her more. She tried an instant bottle of Hipp Stage 2 today and almost exactly an hour later did some little posset type sick. Except this time it absolutely stinks to high heaven - properly acidic, like adult sick. Is this normal for weaning, or maybe likely to be the new formula? I’m worried it is her gut struggling with weaning? Annoyingly saw the HV yesterday and feel a bit silly going twice in a week if it’s just to say “my baby, with reflux, was a bit sick”.

My dd struggle with weaning as she had reflux apples and prunes made her reflux worse and she did not like her milk at all till I changed her to cow and gate x

That’s interesting - we did apple today…

I’ve got some other milks to try. I was just thrown by how acidic and curdled it was - it smelled like adult sick, rather than just a bit of baby spit up sick.

My eldest had issues with weaning and I found the cottage pie and spaghetti bolognaise type meals in jars seemed to better at staying down. He also had a lot of toast and melty stick things.

Yeah I know what u mean by the smell is not nice at all and I second the jars of baby food my older dd wouldn't touch them but my little ds has them now as it's the only thing I can get him to eat and he's normally a very sicky boy but since having them he's not been sick once x

Slow cook some chicken until it’s nice and soft for her. Offer white pasta in thick shapes like penne or rigatoni. Soft toast buttered. Try soft fingers of starchier veg like butternut squash or potato.

I’d imagine the fruit and veg purées have been harsh on her little tummy, it’s a big shock of fibre and fructose that she hasn’t had before.

Thanks. She did enjoy the butternut squash fingers the other day, so that sounds more like the sort of angle I should look at.

and hopefully the sick is a side effect of weaning rather than the milk itself, because she seemed to really enjoy it at the time!
