Tandem nursing

Hello lovely ladies.

6 weeks into tandem breastfeeding and still going strong. 🥳😅
My newborn is gaining about 400 grams a week which I'm happy with, especially after bit of a rocky start fighting off jaundice.
And my toddler seems to be over the moon that milk is back after months and months of pregnancy colostrum feeding. 🙃
I feel a bit tense in regards how much food I'm eating at the moment 🐷😅 but the HUNGER is unreal sometimes! Like I have never eaten in my life 😂
What I'm interested in is other mums experience with tandem feeding and their toddler cutting down on solids, if they did.
Since my milk come in, he has been feeding as often as my newborn. He has cut down on his solids drastically since then. I still offer him breakfast, lunch and dinner but he only eats bits (I have cut the portions to 1/3 so I dont waste too much food). He mostly just eats the veggies and fruit off the plate as those are his favourites. For snacks he only has a bit of fruit but sometimes doesn't even has snacks. I did read this is a phase and they will eventually stop breastfeeding as much when the novelty wears off and get back to solids.
Did your toddler also cut down on solids drastically? How long did it last? Did you still get them breakfast, lunch and dinner ready? Or did you wait until/if they asked for solid food on top of breastfeeding?
My two are 17 months apart btw.

Thanks in advance :) xxx

My 2 DS's are a bit further apart (and both grown up now so details are a bit hazy now!) but yes, I think DS1 did reduce solids and drink a lot of milk when DS2 arrived but it was fairly transient. I think it was a mixture of the novelty of the sudden increase in milk and a bit of insecurity as obviously the arrival of a new sibling is a huge change for a toddler.
I continued to offer solids as normal but didn't restrict his access to milk. I generally tried to keep things as normal for him as I could, and stick to his previous routine as much as possible(such as it was - we are not really routine people!) After 2 or 3 months once he got used to the new arrangements he was pretty much back to normal I'd say. Certainly the initial wanting to breastfeed every time he saw his little brother feeding wore off within the first couple of months.
I know it is frustrating to waste food, but I think it is best to continue to show that you expect him to eat solids without making a big issue of it. I'm sure things will settle down soon.
