Baby drinking a bit at a time

Hi there!
My baby girl has recently turned 3 months and we've been having issues with silent reflux so started using carobel to thicken my expressed breast milk after gaviscon gave her constipation.

We've been using the carobel for about 1 month and have seen a great improvement in the reflux issues, however she only seems to be taking her milk 1oz or 2 at a time now every 20 mins or so all the way up until it's time to go nap again.
She used to drink like a fish and polish off 4oz in one go but now she takes only a bit after showing hunger cues and then wants to do something else .
The bulk of her milk she'll only want just as she's getting tired, even after she's slept for 6 hours at night it makes no difference at all.
We're pretty wiped out having to constantly watch out for the first sign of a cue just to get another 1oz in her.

I was wondering if this is related to carobel as it has calories in, and thought maybe she is feeling full quicker?
I'm hoping anyone can give some insight, we're using the X teat with MAM bottles, we've tried different teats, different milk temperatures, freshly pumped milk instead of older milk, different positions and feeding in a bouncer chair the result is always the same.

Does she still have the reflux @SleepyMumz? Have you tried cutting out dairy for a couple of weeks to see if that improves things?

If she's being fed EBM, was there a problem with latching? With that and the reflux she might have Tongue Tie?

Your Baby's Bottle Feeding Aversion by Rowena Bennett might help you to both get over this too Flowers

Since using carobel her reflux is non-existent thank goodness, HV has asked if she has symptoms of dairy allergy like rashes, blood in poo, upset after/during a feed etc. But she doesn't have any of those signs at all so I've not tried it yet, can a baby still have an allergy without showing any of those symptoms?

I also asked them about a tongue tie and the HV had a look in her mouth and said that she can poke her tongue out okay and it's not heart shaped, which would indicate she doesn't have one.

I'll definitely check out that book and see if there's anything we've been doing that's made her not want her bottle, thank you for that recommendation! Fingers crossed this is just a phase ♡

I'm having the same issue with my 3 month old currently and I'm formula feeding him due to latchment issues and him being premature. He was taking 4oz really well but has had silent reflux that has improved with anti reflux milk, but suddenly at 13/14 weeks he takes ages feeding and pushes away the bottle after having 2oz sometimes. He will push the teat out with his tongue or move his head side to side. Today he's done quiet well but 5oz is taking him up to an hour. I have a GP appointment on Wednesday for him as he has dropped a percentile. The doctor on the phone said that she's not worried as he seems happy and is waking and having regular wet and dirty nappies but the drop in percentile is what concerns me. Sometimes I know he wants more or he will be happier on a full 5oz feed. I recommend talking to your HV and getting baby weighed in case there has been a drop. I wouldn't be worried if he's gaining weight nicely, I would just feed him on demand

I've also noticed that when he sees that the TV is on or his uncles talk to him he drinks better... :/

We're the links on Dairy and Tongue Tie useful at all?

@SleepyMumz I don’t have any help or suggestions but just here to say my 13 week old is acting exactly the same and only since the last few weeks aswell (formula fed, never had any reflux or feeding issues). Drinking 1 or 2oz then fussing about, it’s tiresome isn’t it! Wondering if it’s just a fussy phase, I don’t really remember this with my first but it all becomes a blur lol

I just wanted to update this thread for anyone who is in a similar situation, I did end up purchasing the book by Rowenna Bennett for feeding aversion and it helped tremendously, baby girl now went from drinking 1-2oz to drinking 5oz in one sitting, she now also gets excited to see the bottle and will reach out for it herself.
She wanted to have more control so we still feed her in the bouncer chair and just hold the base of the bottle to keep it steady while she grabs it.
