Washable Breast Pads

rozzyraspberry · 25/02/2008 20:37

DS3 is 2 weeks old and I'm thinking of investing in some washable breast pads to save some money (using disposables at the moment). Are washables good? If so which are the best?

Thanks

I must say, I'm a huge fan of non-disposable anything, but I did go back to disposable breast pads (I stuck with the terry nappies though). they are not as comfy as paper ones, and they used to find their way down the seals of my washing machine, and it made funny noises.

having said that, I did also occasionally use flannels cut in half and folded in half. they are comfy enough and don't screw up your washer.

I had a pack of Avent ones from Boots. £4.99 for 6 and a little wash bag. They were great, dried v quickly but watch if the milk dries as they can stick slightly to your nipple when you come to chnage them. Still recommend them though.

I got some nice ones from Spirit of nature but in the end didn't save much m oney as i stopped needing to wear them by the time ds was 2 or 3 months old.

I have some of these (can't remember where from) but I must admit I found the disposable ones fitted better and didn't leak, which the non-disposable ones did much more. I still plan to use them for DC3 when he/she arrives, just in the evening!

I used some with DC1 (can't remember which ones) but also found that they leaked more than the disposables, and gave a massive circle shape over the nipple area so not as discreet. Use washable nappies etc but had to switch to disps on this one. I didn't leak much after the first coule of weeks and so didn't go through loads, and didn't need after a month or two.

If anyone does recommend a really fab washable brand though I may go back to them for DC3.

i have imse vimse organic ones and think they are great. tried the paper ones once and hated them. bought from green baby. never had a leak. you can wash them in a net bag, although they don't disappear in the wash as much as baby socks!

toysrus washable breastpads leak every single time. (But they did come with a wash bag for the washing machine). tommee tippee disposables are great so I've stuck with them and only use the washable ones when I've run out.

spiderbabymum · 04/03/2008 20:51

Yes definately .
I found the Avent ones the best . comfortable . soft . Much more breathable therefore stay comfortable even when wet .

Also tried Lasinoh ones but very big .

MUCH prefer them to disposables .

I generally use washables (I bought Mothercare the first time round - 4 years ago - and have stuck with them). Always wash them in a net laundry bag or if you haven't got one tie them in a pillowcase.

Occasionally use the Tommee Tippee disposables - they stick better in your bra -handy if you are a restless sleeper. Also good if you are going out somewhere where it isn't convenient to readjust the washable ones.

My DH used to laugh at all the pads drying on radiators around the house.

Beware - Washing Machine gave up one day and guess what was blocking it

blousy · 04/03/2008 20:59

I tried washables (Avent) but they weren't absorbent enough and I would get wet patches on my clothes. (I was very over-supplied though.)
I had to use disposables, but they are blimmin expensive if you go through several per day.

spiderbabymum · 04/03/2008 21:18

I just chuck em straight in the machine .

Then again ......You could SEW your OWN .

YES details on here somewhere . !!!!!

rozzyraspberry would you like to try some out? I have Imse Vimse ones and Lansinoh ones. I'm not using them anymore, was wondering who to give them to. I could post you a couple of pairs if you like!

PorridgeBrain · 04/03/2008 21:31

Can also recommend the Avent ones. I bought 2 packs of 6 which was enough to get me through and I personally found them much more comfortable than disposables but then I never had a problem with over supply.
