When do they weigh new babies in your area?

I have a 10 day old baby, my 4th child.
1st + 2nd baby I'm sure were only weighed at birth, 1 week, 2 weeks, and whenever I got to HV clinic after that. I was told they 'should' get back to birth weight preferably by 1 week old, 2 weeks if not by 1st week, after that I suppose interventions would be suggested.... Which seemed reasonable enough.
But now policy is to weigh at 72 hours, 1 week, and tomorrow HV is coming and suggested she could weigh him again! AIBU to think this all is a bit excessive, and might flag up non-existent problems since each MW or HV has their own scales, brief plateau in weight gain might get noted which doesn't actually mean anything? It just feels like a bit of unnecessary pressure, partic. for breastfeeding mothers.
Is it widely recommended now to weigh them so frequently in the early weeks?

Hi! {smile]

Ds2 was weighed at 12 days to see if he had regained his birth weight and hasn't been weighed again since then. As long as his nappies are full and I can see he is ok, I'm really not concerned about his weight. I agree that too much emphasis is placed on this. I was thoroughly sick of HVs and MWs by the time he was 2 weeks old (total of 4 home visits) and when the GP called to make an appointment for a newborn I just said "no thanks, I will come along if I have any concerns".

Maybe it's just where I live! Baby was full term, a good weight and none of mine have ever had FTT or other danger sign.

Visit-wise, Day of the birth was absurd: MWs departed at 6:30am, 2 more MWs turned up at 11:30am, GP came around 1pm (same GP who told me that he didn't do home visits after homebirths, said I must be mistaken about that, I hope he's medically competent because sometimes he makes me wonder, GP didn't do a single check the MWs hadn't done at the birth, anyway, not sure what the point was).

I have been trying to gently discourage them, but I think we've had at least 4 other MW visits, too. My community MW wants to meet the baby so she's coming tomoro, but after that it should be only HV, and I don't intend to go along to her clinic often.

Breastfeeding rates do seem low around here...

Come on, somebody can beat this, right? DS4 weighed 4x in the space of 11 days, or do you think they were picking on me personally? (Puts on paranoid hat...)

DD (currently 4 weeks) was weighed at birth, 5 days (when mw did blood spot test), 10 days (final visit with mw). Since then I have chosen to take her to clinic for weighing once a week, but is totally by choice. She is gaining well though, spot on 75th centile, so not sure if they would be more keen to weigh her if not.

Here, so far, weighed at birth and 5 days. Day 10 visit mw said there was no point weighing ds2 again so soon. Today (day 13, final mw visit) the mw said she wouldn't bother weighing him as he 'looks bigger' than his birth weight and that was good enough.

I assume hv will weigh him when she comes in a week or so.
