Milk for hungier babies - advice if possible!

DS3 is 15 weeks old and bottle fed and over the last few days has become increasingly unsettled having previously been the most laid back, chilled out baby in the world Grin

He was previously feeding every 3-4 hrs (except in the night as he sleeps from around 7.30-7.30) and taking about 6oz. Over the last week I've increased that to 7oz and now 8oz.

Tonight he had 8oz at 6.30pm but just now (8.15pm) has woken up and drained another 4-5oz and he's doing this more often as the days go by.

Luckily it's not affecting his nighttime sleep and he still goes through but I do think he's getting hungry.

Obviously don't want to start weaning and it's not that desperate but just wondered if anyone had experience of going onto Cow and Gate for hungrier babies? Is there any reason that I shouldn't switch to this? Would it make him constipated?

I know all babies are different so noone can tell me how he'll react but just wondered what others have found.

TIA
Gobby

Hi GDG - both of mine were hungry babies but from quite early on (both largish). I used C&G for ds (I think) and MW suggested switching to premium plus after about 4-5 weeks as he just kept on downing bottle after bottle. He was sooo much more settled after I did change.

Thanks JP - so is premium plus just the one for hungrier babes? I think in a blue box whereas he's on the normal green one now.

If it's not affecting his night time sleep then maybe it doesn't matter?

How much is he eating per day compared to what he should be for his age or weight on the tin? If he's way over then maybe you could switch to hungrier baby as it should allow you to feed less. It should only last until he weans.

My ds is only 9 weeks, so not sure what is normal for 15 weeks, but seem to remember when I had dd that the maximum size bottles I made up were actually 9oz and she weaned at 4 months, so it must have been at around that age (she fed every 4 hours, so would have been 4 bottles a day, and like you nothing at night by then).

I gave my son the blue packaged milk when he started getting hungrier, but tbh it just made him constipated.

you could always buy a small box to see if it suits your baby though, all babies are differant

from what i can remember (8 years ago). I was told that whatever the babies weight in pounds that's the amount of ounces of milk they should have in a day. Well one night he went through more than an entire day's worth. He just kept on waking up chomping on his fists and making "hungry" sounds.

Gobbledigoose · 12/12/2004 20:52

You're right distracted - he's still OK at night but it's thrown me because I've always known he was crying because hungry or tired and now he's going mad an hour after taking 8oz and I'm thinking - do I give another bottle or will he drink half and I'll get into feeding smaller bottles every 2 hours, which of course I don't want.

Just not seen him this unsettled during the day and evening and obviously don't want him to be starving! He is a little podge!

That's it Jampot - he has constantly got his fist in his mouth chomping like his throats been cut!!!

Colditz - thats what I thought so maybe I'll get a small box or a carton and see how it goes.

Thanks all!

growth spurt maybe?

None of mine ever went onto hungry baby milk so can't help with the change over.

Distracted · 12/12/2004 20:58

Think it's 2.5 oz of feed per lb in body weight, by the way.

Gobbledigoose · 12/12/2004 21:07

Oh right - no help to me as I've not been to clinic to have him weighed since about 3 weeks old Shock Blush

Weeeeell - he's clearly growing!!
