When does a bf baby start being able to poo without all the drama??

just wondered as my ds (5 weeks) generally takes a long and intensely physical time pooing and often seems quite upset/in pain with the whole thing. causes problems if he's determined to bf at the same time (he gets totally frantic!)

he's healthy, good weight gain, lots of poos so no probs - i'm assuming that his digestive system gets a bit more effective at some point??

thanks for any thoughts! x

he's only had 5wks to get used to the sensation of pooing - so long as it's runny it's unlikely he's in pain.

it gets better

it's not just bf babies either - I think they almost all do that red-in-the-face straining and gurning. I think DD stopped all that at about three months. As MrsBadger says, it's really the consistency of the poo that matters, not how much effort they seem to be making.

yeah just means he tends to see how far he can stretch my nipple and then shakes his head like a little rotweiller ouch. gets really upset if he has to stop feeding as he's a wee guzzler.

thanks though ladies, i'm glad you think that the straining isn't necessarily discomfort or pain
