silent reflux and choking?

Hi,

I'm a new dad to a wonderful daughter (8 weeks) who I think has silent reflux. She doesn't throw up often but I hear her swallowing what sounds like milk at the back of her throat throughout the day (not just right after feeds). She also looks a bit uncomfortable when she does it.

That in itself seems ok, but a couple of times she's also had really bad choking episodes when the milk is coming back up. Normally it's about 30 - 60 mins after a feed. She flails her arms and looks terrified whilst it's going on and I feel so helpless. It lasts about 10 seconds and then finally the milk spews out of her mouth and her nose all at once, followed by a huge amount of crying. But for those 10 seconds it's horrible - it looks like someone drowning!!! We ended up going to A&E one night after a really bad episode and pediatric nurse told us this is normal for reflux babies. But it just seems so extreme to be normal!

So just wanted to ask if any other parents of reflux babies experienced this? I would much prefer if she just thre the milk up after feeding than have to deal with the choking and siletn reflux!

Currently on Carobel after Gaviscon seemed to make it worse. It's just very scary & I find myself wishing the early days away until she outgrows it.

Very common. Completely shit. Hang in there it gets better... slowly. If she's in pain push hard for some omeprazole. It's a game changer for lots of babies.

Same thing happened with my firstborn. It's bloody terrifying. I found raising the cot at her head end helped a lot - but do check that first with your GP/health visitor. I really feel for you as I used to constantly have to check on her which added to the general stress and my sleep deprivation ..
