if you want cheap, a cold water steriliser with tablets.

personally I think a tommie tippee steam steriliser is probably best - my friend's one was massive and could hold at least six, if not more big bottles. the avent steam one which I have got is good as well - holds six 8 oz bottles.

never used a microwave steriliser one so can't comment

We had an Advent microwave one which was perfectly fine ! Easy to do & not much messing about

fruitcake · 11/12/2004 20:32

It depends on the bottles you have. If Avent, then the microwave one is brilliant. It's so fast & you can store it in the microwave itself if you haven't got a lot of counter space. The tablets are good, too, except it makes everything taste yuck. Rinse under tap before using on baby (or does this defeat the purpose?).

dancer77 · 11/12/2004 20:40

it does but you can rinse things with boiled water can't you? We had Avent steam steriliser - absolutley fine

used avent electric, you tend to like what you eventually get ifykwim, if you have space it is good as no faffin around, kiddicare.com cheapest price i found... but then again sterilising is a uk thing they do not do it all in usa... or so i heard

I used a lindam steam steriliser for both of mine and loved it. Bought a new one when the old one packed up and only used it twice - selling it for £15 if you want one!!! Grin

hercyulelog · 11/12/2004 21:25

I used cold water and milton. For some reason i prefered this to steam,.

hiya charlie...have you got an argos book? its in there page 1086. It's the Lindam Universal Steam Steriliser, holds upto 8 standard size, 6 gripper or 5 wideneck bottles plus accessories. I use it for bottles, dummies, spoons bowls etc - everything really!! It's dead easy and is done in 8 minutes. £25.
I used it for 3 Avent bottles and 3 tommee tippee Nuby bottles and they fit in, but dont realy sterilise much any more - just a run under the boiled kettle or hot tap!! When i had my original one i always chucked the bowls and stuff in too

Yorkiegirl · 11/12/2004 21:51

I had a Lindam Universal one for DD1 too, it was ace. Don't need it for DD2 as she's still bf and won't take a bottle or a dummy. Definitely worth getting one. I passed mine on to another mnetter and its still going strong!

xmashampermunker · 11/12/2004 21:55

I use an Avent steam steriliser and really like it. One thing though - if you live in a hard water area (ours comes out of the taps in chunks...!), use bottled water otherwise you need to descale every second go!

As far as spoons and bowls go, don't bother sterilising them, just wash them up or dishwash them. By the time you're weaning your baby, they're putting all sorts of unsterile things in their mouths anyway!

fairydust · 11/12/2004 21:59

microwave sterliser from mothercare we used although mothercare actually sell bottle that don't need a sterlisr i believe you put so much water in them then pop them in the microwave

charlie95 · 11/12/2004 22:08

thanks for that everyone. i'll keep window shopping temporarily and let onzeph know asap, when i decide what to go for. shall read about yours first if thats ok? are you selling it anyway ? what about P&P ? i live in s. wales.

no worries Charlie - just give me a shout if you want it. I reckon p+p will only be about £3? It's still boxed and everything. :)

jingleoooggs · 12/12/2004 07:44

Depends what you want it to do!!!!!!! We had a Advent microwave on which was great until we went away to family with no microwave and had to cold water sterilise - the Advent one has a shallow bottom and deep lid so couldn't be used for cold water. I ended up buying the Tesco microwave one which could be cold water aswell, as is deep with a flip lid. This one is great, cheap and I couldn't recommend it more.
