She is on both gaviscon and lansoprazole, hasn’t been able to poo since yesterday doing tiny little balls of dry poo or a tiny shart, I was told giving an ounce of boiled water between feeds will help can anyone verify?

How old is baby? You should approach your breastfeeding support group if bf or GP if not. In my bf group we were supported to use the smallest dose possible, so often half a dose every other feed in order to minimise the chance of constipation. Certainly wouldn't give water without a bf expert advising.

An oz of boiled water is a lot for such a small tummy and not something I would be comfortable doing but saying that my sister in law was advised to give her newborn orange juice 😦 for constipation. I was prescribed both medications for my son I did use the gaviscon but not omeprazole and stopped after day 2 as it made him gag. Have you tried anti reflux milk?. The national institute for care and excellence recommends a trail of anti reflux milk before medication but for some reason gps like prescribing medications first. Both medications work by thickening the contents of the stomach making in harder for milk to come back up basically the same as anti reflux milk (sorry if you already know that) It never worked for my son actually made him worse as we later found out he has a CMPA but I done a lot of research on reflux he still struggles a little now. From most parents Iv spoken to a lot gets better as they get older and I can defo say that for my little one who’s 4 months. I done small feeds and often and I had to keep him upright after a feed. I ended up carrying him in a baby carrier a lot which I found helped for him. I would say if you are doing the same be careful as far as head positioning goes as my son now has torticollis which basically means he’s head leans to one side due to a tight muscle in one side and is having to do daily exercises. It’s hard going and it emotionally draining, it’s definitely a battle. I hope he improves soon 🤞

@Kcheey did the anti reflux milk cause constipation? When she’s on the reflux medication she’s screaming because of constipation when she’s off the reflux medication she’s screaming because of reflux so no matter what I chose she’s still in pain, it’s emotionally exhausting to see her like that and also being up all night with her it’s getting to a point where I am falling asleep with her in my arms while doing the night feeds, I dread feeding times because she’s either really uncomfortable from the reflux or the constipation, and I can say I did give her boiled water yesterday but only half an ounce and afterwards she pooped twice

He was only on the anti reflux milk a day because of his unknown at the time CMPA it made him very unwell. He never got constipated cause the allergy gave him diarrhoea. I can completely empathise with you, I know how exhausting it is but the only thing I will say is, it will get better just hang on in there. You are doing everything you can but your in a catch 22. Im glad she had a poo hopefully the water can help. I have an 11 year old and I’m sure the recommendation then was you can give water from birth 🤷‍♀️ I keep having to explain to my friends and family with older children that they don’t recommend giving water till 6months now lol
